High on Fire are awesome...their new one, Blessed Black Wings, is unbelievable!
Also check out Matt Pike's new band, Kalas. A little more on the punk side. They used to be called Scum Angel.
By the way, I think the Sword are amazing; I haven't stopped playing their cd since I got it.
Just because they're new to the metal scene and don't "look the part" doesn't mean they're not sincere.
They're playing here in San Fran next week.
I'm going to see Early Man tonight.
Thank God people are still listening to Metal...

I'll be the first to admit it. I don't know much about metal. That said, I do know that I don't like HOF at all. Please refrain from ripping on me for having an opinion. Moving on.... lets talk some dragonforce...crazy **** that dragonforce.

I don't post here often but what a thread! Anyone into Mistress, Iron Monkey, Anaal Nathrakh? D

Discordance Axis have already been mentioned but they are one of my favourites...

we're not blasting you for your opinion, but that you were stating that they were "fake ass metal." which they clearly aren't, and now that you've said that you don't know much about metal, has argued our point for us. thank you.

also moving on, dragon force kind of week, check out hammer fall, or man-o-war, much more epic.

Somehow this is my favorite thread ever.

Bikes: yes please.

they're obviously talented technically, but i find dragonforce to be so gimmicky. not as bad as early man though. they're way too derivitive for me. some of their songs sound like they took motorhead, early metallica, and black sabbath songs and just changed the riffs around a bit. i saw them and the sword awhile back... the sword was great, but early man was so bland. goodness, i love heavy metal, but i really am starting to think metal is becoming the new extreme-o and weed is becoming the new coke. hahahaha

old danzig is sweet.

anyone heard deadbirds? or anyone listen to buried at sea?

In addition to being about the gayest band since The Darkness, Dragonforce also features ex-members of Demoniac, who were, for a time, a NSBM (National Socialist Black Metal) band. So either they're nazi sympathizers or they will go to abhorrent extremes to gain an audience.

Dragonforce

Demoniac

the new Saviours is LP is not as good as their EP, Warship, b/c I think they lost their vocalist from Yaphet Kotto, I did not hear his vocals on the new album which is disappointing.

The Sword are great, I have been listening to it at work, telling my coworkers about slaying spider kings and spilling silver blood .... they do not get it.

i disagree. i think crucifire is better.

mag was in saviours, but they kicked him out. he never sang anyways. austin, who is also in yk (though they just broke up) is still doing vocals... he just changed his style somewhat.

Bikes: WEEEEE!!!!

On the subject of Sleep/HOF etc I'm suprised nobody has mentioned Bongzilla. Also quite enjoyable even if you don't smoke weed.

The first time I heard sleep... funny enough it was the scene in Gummo when the two boy main charcters are riding down a hill on their bikes IIRC.

Matt P kicks ass... Met him in a friends tattoo shop when I was in highschool and he was helping sourpuss out with their tour.. We drank beer and talked about god. He has an interesting take on that nonsense.

I was just thinking about bongzilla.... I just recently picked up "Amerijuanican" and sweet zombie jesus that **** was amazing. The one time I saw them was in the middle of no where, aka 5 minutes from my parents house, in an old hotel, during an ice storm, one of the best shows I've seen, next to seeing sunn in philly when the show got shut down early because they were rattling plates off tables at the restaurant next door, which led to steven smashing the ceiling with some stick he found....

watching gummo this weekend reminded me of how bad ass metal is. it also reminds me that I need to get some Bethlehem, and a pink girls bike with a 20" tire in the rear and 16" in front.
