there was an article a couple days ago in the wall street journal where landis admitted to drinking 2 pints of beer and 3 shots of whisky the day before his come-back. Appearently there was a study unknown to landis that alcohol can increase your testoserone level anywhere from 30- 200%. I'm not going to make a call on whether or not he did it, but I thought that was an important piece of evidence to take into consideration.

it has nowhere near that large an effect on T/E ratio however. A dose that for someone landis' size would be around 8 pints of strong beer or 9 shots of whiskey did not put any of the subjects over 2:1 let alone 5:1 The largest percentage increase was only 90% and I think the average was 30%. That could explain why he failed to properly mask his doping but by itself does not make his tests anything near normal.

But, alcohol, combined with thyroid condition/medication, cortizone, and severe bonk the day before....
Seems like there are so many variables that a decent doctor/lawyer team are not going to have hard of a time.. unless the fancy isotope tests shows it is extrogeneous testosterone

Well yeah Landis directly said that he was hiring a sketchy rent-a-doc to prove that his high ratio was endogenous. "In hundreds of cases," Landis told SI, "no one's ever lost one."
That doesn't mean he's clean and it may not save him in the current climate.

Trevor Graham should keep his mouth shut, IMHO. That's the guy who used to coach Montgomery & Jones, and, apparently, after they went over to John Smith, Graham turned a THG sample in to WADA to stir up the ****... Quite possibly he was involved in their first taking the stuff. Anyway, TrevorG seems to have a lot going on around him.

A rent-a-docs note should not be enough to excuse a rider. Look at how many people in Operation Puerto had never failed a test. Even if some of them where only mistakes I think its safe to say that testing provides alot more false negatives then positives.

Floyd, his lawyer, and his doctor have all stated that they expect the B test to be a positive, which we should know between Thursday and Saturday of this week. They will open a doping case with USADA, since it is in their jurisdiction. We will not know the case results until this fall, since USADA has a no-leak policy, unlike WADA. Hmmm. Too bad Johnny Cochrane is dead. He could use the Chewbacca defense.

no, that's not that. the source was shaky- read it- it is clearly third-hand information from word-of-mouth. second, and more important, is the carbon isotope ratio test. this is not 100%. many things can cause variations in isotope ratios, including the cortizone shots landis receives. they are simply checking his urine for different forms of carbon, which does not clearly say the testosterone is exogenous. you could eat a steroid-fed chicken and pick up detectable isotopes. any glycogen consumed from farmed meat can do this. the system is broken, and this test is far from perfect.
