Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

yeah for sure dutret, but i feel that backpressure, unlike "conventional" pedal force, is directly against the strap, pulling it hard against the edges of the pedal, and thereby stressing it at extremely localized points, something it was not designed for. hence the early failure of mine, exactly at the point it was being pulled hard against the metal underside of the pedal. yanked, in fact, something i don't believe a track racer ever needs to do. especially as, like most of us, i don't tighten the strap right down so there's play in the interface between strap and pedal, thereby increasing the wear
