Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Bikes: To many junkers

I've been pretty removed from society for a while (Rhode Island for a year and now the 'burbs) so, I rarely see people riding fixed (or riding at all really). The only people in RI that I ever saw on a fixed were two of the three messengers ( Yes there are only three full timers in Providence ) and the staff of bike shops.

So do a lot of hipsters actually ride?

It goes from anti-fixie talk, to "hummers are great" talk.

Awesomely funny.

No, Aaron. They walk their bikes like poodles so they can match it to their bag.

WE ALL KNOW THE IDIOTS THAT JUMPED ON THE BANDWAGON.

They are ripping on non-athletes, actually anti-athletes, that will co-op any trend for the sake of "steet cred".

See: The Clipse, Mr. Me Too.

If you were riding bikes before you got fixed, and continue to vary your cycling enthusiasm outside of the fixed hub, then you are exempt, and don't get a rise out of this stuff.

If you truly are a hipster, and youtube is your girlfriend, then carry on. You make me laugh when I see you at the pub. And that's a good thing. It really is.

P.S. Kozik is the man.

Yeah, that image is actually from the print I did. I printed one for my girlfriend & that's the only one I've ever printed.. I'm supprised at how many people have said they'd wear one or want one.. thanks!

I'll try and find a picture of it and post it.

I like how several people cite small penises, etc as motivation to ride fixed, the irony of course being in our use of the same argument against the SUV-driving faction.

Oh yeah, and I like how the biggest detractor clearly pwning all the fixie kids has nearly 45,000 posts on that forum. ...we're the losers obsessing over something utterly pointless?
