Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

This was written a long time ago, but if you're still around, I'd like to know more about the puckering you experienced. I have just purchased a Sailrite machine and I'm trying to decide whether or not to keep it because the puckering is driving me crazy. It just seems like the lower feed dogs are pulling the fabric through much faster or more aggressively than the upper feed dog of the walking foot causing a uniform puckering on the lower fabric. I've tried loosening the upper thread tension, which helped slightly and a smaller needle size and the longest stitch possible but the pucker is still there. I find if I force feed the upper fabric while holding back the lower fabric, I can greatly reduce the pucker, but that's kind of ridiculous. I'm sewing an upholstery Sunbrella which has a certain amount of give to it and I'm beginning to think the Sailrite is simply meant to handle more robust fabric. Do you have any advice?
