mrRed tells me I'm not allowed to wear my $5 sunglasses while biking anymore... which makes sense cause shards of glass in my eyes sounds quite painful... but all the cycling sunglasses I've found aren't very attractive. Are there any stylish glasses out there that are safe for biking in? A friend of mine who works at sunglass hut said most designer glasses are also very shatter resistent, the material that they're made from just isn't tinted like cycling glasses are.. is this the case?

recommendations?

I think stylish is a pretty subjective term.... These are pretty stylish:

But I wear these because they are $25CAD and replacement lenses are only $6CAD:

found here

edit: haha nice Yoshi. Those ones are really old school

Oakley Eyeshades with the built in brow pad!!!!!

you should get some that is polycarbonate and fits your face. Go to a sunglasshut or Paragon sports in the city and see what they have. I'm an Oakley fan myself but there are tons of other brands to look for.

i got some native dash XPs for a gift. they are actually really quite nice. four interchangeable lens colors, which is nice. generally i use the standard sunglass lenses, but i have also used the clear a lot for night riding. they are a bit spendy, but have a lifetime no-questions-asked replacement warranty.

So sunglasses with polycarbonate lenses are what you are looking for. Essentially ANY sports sunglasses you like the look of will do in that case.

anything polycarbonate will work. Make sure the bridge is nice and smooth.
If you smack your face into the pavement, you might have other things to worry about.

- yes

- since i need reading glasses, but didn't want to pop for expensive 'scrip shades, i went with Elvex RX-200 and Elvex RX-300 with 3.0+diopters... $10 - $12 online (plus got free shipping)

- the shades look *exactly* like high-end cycling glasses, but are lightweight, cheap, and conform to ANSI safety specs (99% UV A/B protection, and impervious to 44 gram pointed weight dropped from six-foot height onto lens surface; lenses are polycarbs)...

p.s. Google is your friend...

I've googled, it didn't work out. The closest thing i've found to what I want are these:

but the lenses are really smaller than what i want.

almost all major sunglass companies sell a sport line and a casual/street line. Check out Oakley, Smith Optics, Rudy Project, Ray Ban, Briko, just to name a few. Just make sure that the lenses are polycarbonate.
