Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

It's looking like rain showers are going to hang around till Saturday afternoon sometime. I think I might end up riding my fixed crosscheck with full fenders. 5 minutes of riding wet roads without fenders and I'm kicking myself for using the wrong bike.

Also, our tuxedo t's are going to be 'lived-in' pretty well this weekend. I think till Sunday mine might know the way home. Anyone going to sleep in theirs as well to set some time of record for longest period of time wearing a tuxedo t? I think I smell a record in the making...

i don't leave my bike outside when i'm visiting philly. i keep it in her basement. but whats up with that dude/girl with the yellow single speed schwinn le tour that s/he leaves out in the rain and the frame is in perfect condition. she lives pretty much right next to that person. anyhow, do you guys want to get the teams together and ride with each other? EXCEPT Paul and Pista, because he has gears for this ride... EWWWW!
(joking)

actually, i'm buying a geared bike today. first time in three years. i'm super excited. hilly century rides, here i come! (yes hills, they do exist outside of philly)

Bleh.. weather.gov still says 30% chance of showers on Saturday, so I'm going to hold out hope that it's not going to be drizzling on all of us the whole way out there. Might have to get a plastic bottle or something & ghetto up a fender, we'll see. Are you guys going to ride PATCO out to the starting point? I'm trying to figure out how much of a pain that's going to be, but I have no desire to drive out there either.

Anyway, I'll be the guy with the camo shorts on & the sparkly blue Fuji Royale conversion.

Bikes: Giant Road Bike, Haro Mountain bike and building 1970's single speed.. :)

Hey guys,

I am also riding in the 150 tomorrow. Anybody else thinking about tackling the extra 25 mile loop? I am using a geared bike right now, but count me in next year for the fixed gear team. I found a sweet circa 1970/80's road bike in my neighbor's trash that I am converting to a fixed gear. Hopefully I will have it build in the next couple of weeks. I will post pics when it is done.

okay, this is america pal. each bike has exactly one fork. you can only bend your "forks" if you crash multiple bikes (like when you ghostride your whip into a bus stop)

Yeah, I see that Yellow bike outside all the time, I also see that this past week someone stomped the back wheel and possibly stole the front wheel. It is barely locked and I didnt think it would last as long as it did outside. I work at the Mental Health Center a few doors down as a Therapist. So if you see a guy with a beard and glasses walking to "South on 4th" during the day, you should say hello.

see yah tomorrow!

if we didn't average about 30 minutes per rest stop, we would have made fantastic time. hey man, somebody had to pillage the food and drink.

Were you the dudes with the I <heart> DC shirts on? If so, I saw you guys hopping curbs & skidding & stuff at the last rest stop of day two, when I was about ready to fall over. That made me feel that much more pathetic. Besides the DC guys & various members of Team Schmeam, I saw a trio of guys in full Puma gear riding fixies (though I only saw them on day 1, didn't run into them on day 2 at all) and one grey-haired guy riding a Trek singlespeed, which was pretty cool.

we were in fact the 1 <3 dc kids doing skids and bunny hops(only babychris was hopping up the curbs, although leaving the lunch stop we did both bunny hop the railroad tracks). that rest stop was after our awesome paceline with two team schmeam members. we did that 14.3 miles in 40 minutes. we got in day 2 around 3:30? we left pretty late both days, and we always took super long rest stops because we dont have a sense of time and liked to get free stuff.

edit: we were also the *******s that dedicated "God Bless the USA" to Team Schmean so that you all had to suffer while we were getting on the train laughing.
