when is it OK to punch another biker?
I turned onto a 2 way street that have bike lanes on both sides.
This guy on another bicycle was coming straight at me, going the wrong way taking up the entire bike lane. I swerved to the inside (not going to go into traffic to avoid this guy) and shouted "go the right way!" as we pass. Amazingly he heard me over his headphones and shouted back "suck my ***!" in a keep your whining to yourself type of way. I wanted to turn around and beat the **** out of him....am I too sensitive? |
i'd have maced him.
|
i would have kicked him into traffic
|
i probably would have told u to suck my balls also, but i would have understood when u biked over to me and punched me in my face.

as soon as they act like a jackass? a bike is a mode of transportation, not the insignia of some secret cult. if someone disrespects you, what they happen to be sitting on is of no relevence. |
When they slap your handlebars after you beat them in a sprint.
|
^^haha. i was going to reference that, but was afraid no one would get it.
|
I am the master of obscure references. Call me Dewey.
|
Thank's everyone (& Dewey), I feel so much calmer now :)
|
poopncow, you won by not being the ****** :) Congrats. You only had exposure to him for a few seconds, just think, that guy has to LIVE that way. I think he was clearly waiting for trouble. Biking the wrong way is one thing, not yeilding is another matter entirely.
My policy, wether on bike or driving (or walking for that matter), is if I have the right of way and someone isn't giving it to me (and clearly aren't going to yeild at the last moment), I simply stop dead in place. The beauty of this system is that the ****** has to either yeild to me anyway, or they bump me. If they bump me, then they're clearly trying to start something, and almost no ******s actually want to be the one to provoke the confrontation. They want to prove that the world is out to get them, not the other way around. I reccomend the dead stop and the sh*t eating grin. |
Punch nah...but a frame pump in the spokes.....
|
this sort of **** happens to me ALL the ****ing time.
my usual is to yell "wrong way" with either "buddy" or "******bag" tacked on at the end.. no one's ever really been too upset with me for saying this, but it's still frustrating as ****. as rustang says, it's not like them simply owning whatever beat-ass bike they're on gains them my undying love & respect. they're the reason people don't think cyclists know what they're doing; if i were in your place (and keep in mind, i've been on a hugely antagonistic, confrontational streak lately), i'd like to think i'd have not let it slide. but you're probably a better person than me because you did. |
You should have turned around, sprinted to catch him and while dropping his whiney ass, pissed ON him. It'd teach him to choose words (and his line) more carefully.
|
You punch 'em* when they get in your face.
* 'em meaning anybody. |

I live right off of commonwealth ave in boston at a point where there the rightmost lane on each side is segregated off for resedential traffic. i can't tell you how many times there's someone going the wrong damn way down these "side streets".
however, what really shrinks my balls is when i come upon someone going the wrong way down one of the poorly lit parts with no lights. funny thing is, they're always riding some sort of city hybrid style bike. |

i want you to know that i also appreciate that reference, but also, it definitely looked like he pulled on dudes bar, not just slapped it. (anyone else?) and it's never really ok to punch another biker..pretty much not ok to punch anyone...that doesn't really solve anything, though i do understand the feeling. |

When they pick up your bike and start to mount it. The reasonablle presumption is that they are trying to steal it. A kick to the knee cap is safer; They can't ride off on the bike then and they can't chase you down to hit back. Then back off and call 911.

I was riding the wrong way today when a lady biker was coming at me going the right way. So I went to her left, going out into traffic so she could have the lane. She gave me a dirty look.
