I flatted once with neither tube nor pump in my bag. Fortunately, there was a bike shop nearby, so I purchased both and went on my way. The pump I bought on the shops recommendation - a Blackburn KMP-1 Kamikaze. It is 11 1/4 inches long, no hose, but very compact. The biggest drawback with this type of pump is that it's hard to get much pressure into the tire. I've learned to work around this by propping the rim against a curb so that the curb serves as a support for the pump head. You can steady the pump and put your full weight behind the handle. I can consistently reach 120 - 125 psi using this method. I cannot reach the 145 psi I like to run, but, at 125 psi, riding on after a flat is not much of a compromise - way better than riding 20 miles at 80 psi.

sorry about the flat...but hearing the qbb makes me miss the city so much. used to ride in every day from 72nd ave/austin st. to 61st/madison; later to 22nd/parl; later to 58th. there is nothing like riding the city...

let it be known: the Crank Bros Power pump sucks. Hard.

when it's not falling apart, it's making it impossible to get past 40psi.

I need a new pump!

I have a Harpoon S2 Master Blaster. It's compact and really tough, but I haven't really needed it yet, so I don't know how it handles in a pinch. Anybody familiar with this thing?

(Get it? In a pinch? Ha!)

mountain morph here
just because it's a bit shorter than a road morph, but equally functional.

Really?
I have a power pump alloy with the gauge and high volume/high pressure selector and have no problem getting 100+.

The only reason I wouldn't recommend it necessarily is that the lack of a handle makes it kind of a pain to pump.

my power pump alloy falls apart-- one tube falls out of the other, and the gauge has fallen off (!!) in my bag once. Last time I tried it (on a friend's 1.95 mtb tire) I spend 15 minutes trying, to no avail, to surpass 40psi.

just ordered a topeak mini morph...

Not to make you feel more nostalgic, but 71st/Continental Ave. is my subway stop...not that I take the subway much these days. I take Queens Blvd. to the bridge and then to my office on 6th and 37th.

i found a small schwinn pump thats small enough to fit in my fanny...uh...hip...uh...bike bag! thats it. only had to use it once since i got it and it didnt get no 100psi's but it put enough in there.

i keep all my stuff in that um...small bag, and when i need more space i just put the whole thing in my messenger bag. that way i never lose nothin

Topeak Road Morph w/guage. Extremely easy to use and it saved my @$$ yesterday after getting a flat 25 miles from home... Waaaaay better than the Blackburn AirStik which is a PITA to use and takes 5-10 minutes of tiresome pumping to get anywhere near a desireable pressure. Good thing the Road Morph fits in the same bracket as the AirStik so i didn't have to lose a water bottle cage or strap it to the top tube.

I have that Master Blaster pump, and it's okay... I want a pump with a pressure gauge built in, and more importantly a fold-out foot stand.

Check your Crank Bros pump before you get stuck on the side of the road. Mine was junk also.

Yup. Given to me as a gift, I was stoked on it because of it's size(really tiny). I even thought the high pressure/high volume thing was a really good idea, but anything over 60psi is impossible. I've got a road morph for my touring bike, but may start throwing it in my bag.

I still keep the Crank Bros in my bag and have a presta adapter on my keys. I figure I can run 50psi until I can hit a gas station with free air.

+1,000 on the road morph, or C02 if mini pumps are too big/dorky for you.

Mini pumps that you cant brace against the ground the ground = worthless, unless you only need 40 psi.

yep, mine sucks too; i can get to around 60 psi, which will get me home, but that takes about 5 minutes of furious wanking on that thing (don't mean to be lewd, but it's the truth!). pricey too.

+1 etc on the Topeak Road Morph. Hands down the best non-floor-pump I've ever owned.
