An old, old picture.

Practicing wheelies - 2 seconds later I was on my back.

lyledriver 11-30-06 10:07 PM

I flipped my bike not too long ago. Clipped in moving wheelie, held it for a couple of pedal revolutions, then went too far back. Tried to yank my feet back like on the bmx if aborting a manual and just kicked the whole bike out from under me. It tweaked my wheel, fender and scuffed the brooks. Now I remember why I also have a bike with a 48H rear wheel and platform pedals.

Wow, I really thought that if there was a drawing out there of Henry Rollins in a potato sack race, I would have been in on the ground floor. I guess I'm just not as good at the internet as I used to be.

Nice, I have it sitting in the spot where a TV used to be in the living room. Hopefully someday I'll have some sort of appliance on which to watch it again.

i can't remember the details, but there's a picture of a very well know roadie doing a no handed wheelie across the finish line at a major race. maybe someone remembers better than i do, and can dig it up.

with that said, it's possible, but probably not a good idea to do frequently. besides, he's pro and gets all his equipment for free.

then again, i've seen the owner of my LBS do 2 ft high bunnyhops on his top of the line orbea...

if carbon fiber is supposed to be strong, I wouldn't worry about it...i don't think the force exerted upon the wheel coming down from wheelies is that much compared to other more intense riding forces...

anyways...practiced wheelies the other day and it was a great workout.... how bout we turn this into a...'how do you wheelie'...thread

I like to roll at a slow speed, but fast enough so that I still don't have to put that much force into pedaling each stroke....then anticipating one leg's approach of 12ocklock, get down low toward the handle bars (and on the nose of my seat), almost in a crouching position...and then push up hard off my handlebars and pull up and try to hit a sweet spot

i'm not that great, but when i warm up i can get some nice ones....a lot of work to do, but it takes me back to skateboarding days practicing something over and over

any experienced peeps (or people trying) wanna post tips/experiences?

hell, Google image search "Robbie Mcewen wheelie" and you get a bunch of examples. That's what a strong BMX background will get you.

I am the one with the Bianchi Concept and the cat with the cone on his head is sloppy robot. And BF's own dudeman is one of the cats rockin the wheelie in NYC on my old Martelly. We are working hard to get good content on the site...stuff that no one else can provide on the inner-web. Like weirdos on track-bikes doing wheelies.
