Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I was Jeff Skilling and my girlfriend was Andy Fastow. We thought that dressing up as Ken Lay would be in bad taste.

me and some friends went as a biking viking hoarde. fur and leather loincloth, fur boots to the knee and a real sword which actuall came in handy

someone swerved and acted like they were going to hit us and we yelled at them and we ended up catching up with the car, sword drawn. shouldve seen the look on the guys face. they mumbled something and peeled out and sped off.

**** u-lock justice, its all about justice by the sword.

I didn't have a costume, so I just kept telling people I was Kevin Bacon's character from Quicksilver. No one knew what the **** I was talking about (minus one kid who worked in a bike shop).

I could have done it up better if I had more time. All i would need is a black vest/some other eighties garb and the glorious 'stache.

thanks thriftcore. it was really fun, and though most people had no idea who we were, the ones who recognized were super excited about it.

a critical detail though: don't forget that pack of cigarettes in your sleeve (the second from the left has it, though it's a little hard to see since he's turned around a la "a hard day's night"). we may as well recognize the high point in dennis quaid's career.

oh yeah, and 3mta3, i seriously doubt you know the "real" cutters since the little 500 doesn't allow non-students to participate. i like the movie, but **** the elitist iu *******s.

my buddy and I did that too. he went as "snakes" and i went as "on a plane." i never allow myself to buy anything for a costume until the day of the party, so it was ghetto as hell...children's thermal underwear set with sharpie-drawn windows/plane markings for the "fuselage" (shirt was about 10 inches too short mind you), ski hat with two straws for a propeller, two wings cut from cardboard from the box my wheels came in that morning, spraypainted to match "fuselage" and tied on with twine, and a little tailpiece wing affixed to my ass with a belt...apparently i was asking every girl I saw if they wanted to "tour the cockpit."

for the sake of clarity, in the movie the cutters were the working class townie kids who didn't go to college and were constantly shat upon by the rich dip**** frat boys, but then prove their worth by winning the little 500 bicycle race.

if, in reality, some ******bags at iu think it's cool to totally go against the point of that movie by calling themselves cutters, even though they're all students (and therefore the opposite of cutters), then **** them, and really, **** the little 500 in general.

and **** dutret ^uberaliens.

If i recall, the real "cutters" called themselves something else, but they changed it to cutters for the movie. I'm pretty sure it was discussed in a breaking away thread a few months ago.

speaking as someone who lived in bloomington, and didn't go to school there, the little 500 race sucks. so hard. it's such a huge party all weekend that they bring in cops from surrounding states (not counties, STATES) to patrol the campus/town. basically, if you ride a bike to commute, you will get stopped by the cops and forced to do a breathalizer. it happened to me 3 times within 4 hours, no joke.

also, did you know that "cutters" was just a nickname they made up for the movie? townies from bloomington were/still are called something else (i won't tell you what, that'd be too easy but i think it was in the breaking away thread), but they thought the real nickname just wasn't right for the script.

in keeping with the post: this is somebody who always has long-ish hair and a very full beard, and is certainly not a skin. best halloween costume i saw this year.
