cayne uno

I saw a bit posted about this bike... but nothing that satisfied my intense curiosity. Does anyone know the specs/weight/issues... I like alot about it... the track ends... the thicker tubing... the fixie to freewheel rear hub and the stock parts seem to be from the "not so terrible" catagory... just need more info before slapping down my 5 or so C-notes... I have, at any given point in time, three to four conversions in the works... and maybe my ass is just gettin old and tired... but Im kinda curious about this apparantly shy bicycle company. anyone?

They are pretty inexpensive and seem comparable to an IRO for weight/geometry. They are available through bike shops through J&B Importers. The dropouts seem kind of cheesey, as they are stamped steel with flanges welded on to make them look like the Surly track ends, instead of a 1pc forged dropout. I'm sure they work fine though. Advertised frame weight as best I can recall is sub 5lbs. I'm actually considering one myself.

No problem... also found this thread while looking for something else. Seems mostly to echo what I said about the track ends and not much else. Honestly, I'd buy it over an IRO just because I think the paint/decals/logo on IRO's are so ugly (sorry).

re:

I bought just the frame from College Park Bicycles in Md. I built mine up from scratch and have a thread somewhere on here if you check the search engine with my name that has my specs for my own build up. Personally I love this bike. Sorta lightweight, QUICK acceleration, comfortable. BUT! get it if you like how it suits you. Everyone has a personal preferance on how their bike should feel.

Owner recommendation: great bike for the price. If you're just looking for something to get you around town and aren't really looking to do any track racing or anything really hardcore it will do the job well. Go for it.

i've had 2... an '06 stolen in mexico, and LBS hooked up an '07 replacement for super cheap. i dug the '06 more (may have been slightly smaller & it seemed lighter). great cheap bike.

components are iffy at best: the cayne creek headset that comes stock is ****, as are the cog and lockring
(replace before riding if possible). the no-name stock cranks are pretty **** too -- rideable but you'll definitely want to upgrade when you can.

that said, i really think the geometry is great for street riding. definitely more aggressive than my IRO, but a bit less than the pista (no toe overlap FTW). decals come off easily.

it's a singlespeed these days, and is a great 'get around town' whip, i kinda wish i had brought it to japan with me.

oh, yeah and the dropouts are a pain in the ass...
