Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I've seen chinese delivery guys riding something along the lines of 52x14's, why? Cause they're moving 12 freaking miles an hour. I can run faster than that. And yea, many of em just get their hands on whatever they can afford. And not all messengers fly around on $7000 carbon bikes at 40mph. 95% of them just barely eek by a meager living, it's the other 5% you hear about.

You mixed up your adjectives. Whoever messengers on 52/14 brakeless is not a "good" rider but a "silly" one.

Oops, no straps... make it "********" then.

well i have seen that guy out there on the road i think he is crazy rockin that kind of gear.
He just rides that bike nice and smooth " takes it easy and does his runs" not a speed racer like most of us.

Can we all at least agree that, even though they don't give a ish what their gear ratio is, couldn't point to a hub on their bike, and show a general disdain for the written rules of the road and any unwritten protocols that most might subscribe to (unlike most on this forum), foodies are the most f&*in' hardcore cyclists out there? I've seen these cats delivering food in the dead of January nights, getting blasted by sub-zero wind chills with no gloves on. Yeah, it might be stupid, and they're most likely just barely getting by, but that ish still rates in my book.

I feel for him, I did 53/13 for a year messengering and didn't like it afterwards.

I did Bear Mountain on it and was flying. I was young so no pain.

Now, I wouldn't think of it.

Riding clipless and strapless is fun, I did it for my first 3 years as a messenger because that was the way we rode our bikes ( we didn't know about staps and clips around my way) .

I road the Gianni Motta like that last year for 3 months and the Level for 6 months.

Red Menance was laughing because it thought it was wild as did those who came to CMWC 05.

I will not ride freewheel without brakes like Ted Shred(SF-NYC messenger/DJ)

S/F,
CEYA!
