there's another angle that i often wonder about
what about the fear of being seen as a hipster?
yeah ... yeah ... who cares what "they" think.
but when you pass another rider in the street
and you notice they're riding fixed (don't tell me you dont look)
don't you wonder what it is that they're thinking?
often I find myself "sizing up" the other rider
as if beyond our mutual appreciation of our bikes,
i could somehow understand this stranger, or know what they're about
other times, when met with a "holier than thou" glare, i know
i know that they're looking at me and saying "HIPSTER" or "POSERGER"
they really believe that they're better than me
or that they discovered fixed first
is it so bad to not want that?
is it so bad that i don't like people thinking that I'm in it for the minute?
I love my bike

I dunno, I have the opposite experience, and try to give it to others. Saw a guy locking a red Soma Rush last night, and gave him the old "Nice bike." On the timesup ride, there were a couple of FG/SS riders, and we chatted a little about the conversion process, future plans, etc. It's nice.
