I don't see how difficult it can be to tug on the strap as you pedal from a stop. I haven't had any problems yet, and I'm not the most coordinated guy out there.

getting the foot in and the strap tightened is the annoying part but I also live on a steep hill and haven't practiced much.

re-posted from the for trade thread. these are a great example of narrow, old style touring shoes. they fit oh-so-perfectly with campy track pedals and some sort of clip/strap combo. i always wore sambas or pumas but then i got a pair of something like these and they are the absolute best.

if anybody wears sz 40 and wants them [shameless].

I just bought som of those old diadoras from nashbar, they are on sale for 30 bucks. I took off the plate from the bottom and dipped them in some plasti dip to make them rubbery on the bottom. Now I have silly cycling shoes with super stiff soles that I can actualyl walk around in without slipping allover the place.

where are adidas, reebok, or many other shoes made? same region & style of factories as nike.

btw- i bet if we were to go through some of your various consumer goods, some sweat shop produced items would be found. heck, dave chappelle has his own sweat shop in his house.

yeah... i just think it's unfair that everyone gets on nike about their factories when their competetors & many other companies use the same business practices. the poster got on nike while other shoes made in those same sweat shops were discussed & not mentioned in their "anti-sweatshop" post. that's all.

Hey, I mentioned Nike since that is who bought Converse, not Adidas or anyone else. I guess maybe you should read why I mentioned Nike. I definitely said go for NoSweats. I didn't say hey buy some other shoe.

i'm not trying to argue, but you singled out nike & i was just saying that i think they get a worse rap than the others due to people singling them out over the other brands. you just hear all the time "don't buy nike! they use sweatshops!" when the other companies do as well. i just don't like how they're the only ones who get singled out for poor business practices & the others get off the hook when they are just as guilty. (btw, i purchased this pair right before nike acquired converse to get one last "true" pair of chuck taylors. not that it really matters, i guess.) on the other hand, nosweats sounds like a sweet deal & i'm actually happy you brought those up because i never heard of them. i'm definately going to spread the word.

And they are actually identical. I was talking to someone about their "converse" and they said these are not converse. That is how I found out about them.

Thomas Friedman is an ass.

Of course the OP singled out Nike, because Nike makes
Converse
. What other company would he possibly address,
given the subject matter? You just wanted to spout some
crap about sweat-shops, as if we all thought that Adidas
were made by Santa's ****ing elves or something.

The No Sweats look pretty nice. There's a shop in my neighborhood that sells em'. I wish they did an all-black low top though.

Oh, and Adidas suck now too. Puma? Don't get me started

In fact: ATTENTION ALL ATHLETIC SHOE COMPANIES. Please stop pulling this ****. If I'm going to drop $60+ on a pair of shoes they had better
  • fit
  • be made reasonably well

Think consumers only care about what logo is on your shoes? Think again.

I doubt it, I have only used clips and cleats a handful of times on anything other then an exercise bike in the past decade. I have absolutely zero motivation to change that since clipless do everything clips and cleats do plus more. And do it better too.

How often do you ride with cleats? How long did it take you to be able to get your your cleat into a pedal, everything situated and then tightened(really ****ing tight) while going down a 20%grade(my driveway) or a 12%(my street)?

what about something like these.....climbing approach shoes... they should be low profile they have the nice rubberized edges and should have a decently stiff sole as they are made for both hiking and climbing...
