Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? How often do you snap your shains, people??? I've biked about 30,000 miles in my life and never broke a chain. I don't think I'll ever carry a chain tool unless I go touring to Afghanistan.

15 wrench, patch kit, spare tube, multitool, tyre levers. The usual stuff. Plus a pair of rubber gloves so I don't get my hands dirty. But I don't always them, only if I have a bag with me cuz I have some other schit to carry.

I suspect this may have to do with your body weight. How heavy are you?

Egyébként.. BÚÉK!

Haha, I'm light as a feather. 137lbs. It shouldn't matter how much you weigh unless you **** up something, get your der. in the spokes or similar. i can't see a chain snap on a ss/fix because it gets no side forces and twists. Only if it was misassembled.

I think it's logical that a heavier biker will cause the chain, and the whole drivetrain, to wear out faster. I, like you, have never had a chain break on me, ever. And I weigh the exactly same as you Coincidence?

Talking of FG; I checked your FG ride, and was impressed by the ingenious way you fixed the sprocket to the hub! Did you drill the sprocket yourself, or does someone sell sprockets with the holes of the right size and location for the IS rotor bolts?

I have broken chains, but not since my BMX days.
Thowing a spare chain link in with your patch kit is really not a big deal.
Most multi-tools come with a chain tool.

I had it drilled. I made a thread with all the info, check it out if you're interested.
Boone makes a $$$ Ti cog with the 6-bolt pattern and there's another commercial option in the thread somewhere.

JChou, have you tried to meet up with some people from the Bay Area? If not, check out sffixed.com for more local ride info, gatherings, etc.
thank you for saying this 165. i get a bit tired of all these folks that have been here for years and have discussed almost everything already. i'm sure it gets old to see the same stuff over and over, but isn't it just as easy to skip the thread if it's something you've already seen? anyhow...it's definitely not as bad as my "bike girls" thread. sometimes i'm just too lazy to do a search before i post.

to answer the op, sometimes i have no tools when i leave the house. most of the time though, i carry a patch kit, pump and wrench.
