Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Agreed. These are the type of qusetions and topics I would never think to look up, but enjoy reading about.

Try to ride where I live

I bust a link every couple hundred/thousand miles. Our whole city is a giant hill, and I like riding a high gear ratio. I keep a good chunk of chain in my bag because the last time a link broke, I wrapped a good portion of the chain around the cog/hub and it jammed into the dropout, ruining about 10 links.

Fixie + hills = lotsa wear, add in winter and it gets multiplied by 10. Being stranded due to a broken link in 5 degree F weather isn't fun.

Duluth, MN? A lovely town! I haven't been there in years, but I remember it being like a little Milwaukee.

The same boring kit everyone else uses, a flat kit and multitool thingee for managing allen bolts. Also I carry my light set around along with a flourescent geek vest in case of extremely bad visibility and traffic, and also because I am p-whipped.

- one box of swan matches

i used to have a 20 rolled up inside my untaped bars 'just in case' because i don't often have much money on my person..
i also kindof figured that if anyone was scoping out my bike really hard they miiight see it grab it and run before spending time ripping anything else off..

then i got really broke and remembered about it and spent it
