i heard miche's are great. i've smashed around on them for about 20 miles on a friends bike and they were great. I've ran 75's and notice flex...

just dont be in denial about liking the style of 75's...

I ride RDs, they're fine for tooling around town. I would've only gone with the 75's if I were racing ... but I also only weight 135lbs and don't put out more than 200w at my best.

There's another thread going on which suggests that the "flex" is in the bottom bracket. A lot of people seem to be comparing how one bike with the rd, for example, flexes, as compared to another bike with, for example, the 75. Anyone actually use both on the same bike, and notice a difference? I assume the 75 is theoretically stiffer, but it still seems like the real flex, or most of it, will come from the bottom bracket.

I've used only RD and wouldn't know if the 'flex' comes from the crank or the frame. How can one tell? If pushed on the crank, the pedal would 'flex' inward, but the whole frame moved inward too.

i think the reality is it come down to which one looks better. flex is probaly not a huge deciding factor if its minimal between the two.
so what cranks did you decide on?

well..every part of your drive train, and for that matter almost every part of your bike, flexes to some extent. All of this contributes to the flex you feel when you are really putting the hammer down. To say that one type of crank is more flexy than another, when you are not even comparing them with the exact same bike, is absolutely meaninless.

Is whatever difference there is in flex really going to make any difference (or be apparent) at all for the vast majority of riders?

Well, I just ordered some sugino rd cranks. I can't really fork out for 75's. I hope I'm not making the most terrible mistake of my life.

Super mighty comps were campy copies, and fairly nice cranks. How much can you get them for? If it's more than a hundred just go for a new pair of 75s. It sounds like that's what you really want anyway.
And what's so wrong with aesthetics? One of the cool things about cycling is the attention to details. If you like it, and can afford it, then why the hell not?
