if i was gonna drop almost 4 grand on a carbon fiber frame just to respray it and hang it on the wall, i think i'd want to do something a little more exciting with the paintjob.

Maybe HUF can do a repaint and make shoes to match!

Also I'm glad your friend knows how to use the helvetica varients, but he can sure blow a lot of money proving he does.

where have you been, [165]...

you think with all of huf's pull and bank he could come up with something better than a stencil font. and a poorly spaced one at that. of course most good designers wouldn't touch this hip-hop hot topic **** with a ten foot pole, so it stands to reason.

Juvi- If he got a good deal he could have sold it. Riding it around to do bar spins and whatever other boring tricks are in this week is ****ing moronic. A stiff frame with tiny risers and clips is pointless. Same goes for the wheel(although if it is just a fancy looking peice of **** not so much).
It's all more pointless then the non-racing roadie on the madone. At least they are benefiting from their ostentation in some small sense.

Some people choose function, some choose fashion - and others find something in between. Riding for fun it what matters most. And I guess it is true that fun sometimes mean buying the most expensive thing you can find and flaunting it - for some people.
I love pretty bikes. Who doesn't?
Let's face it - the whole "track bikes on the street" makes little sense anyways. Fun as hell, but makes little sense.
And don't bother with the "zen/less likely to be stolen/cheaper/safer/been doing it for years" arguments. I love it, but it does not make sense.

but do you think that look is a "pretty bike"?

I said nothing - I stated a position without example as everyone's definition of beauty will more than likely be different. You are trying to contain a nebulous idea, something I struggled with also. I know what I like. I like the way the new Cramerotti's and Cinelli's look. And the Pista Concepts, also. The paint jobs on the Keirin bikes are incredibly alluring. Am I down with someone repainting a bike and putting their own slogan or whatever on it - I could care less. I think it is a bit ridiculous to advertise a "self" brand name for the sake of "promotion" in what now appears to be a trackbike-choked city (SF) as far as clique-y-ness and that like. But I am far away from that silliness. It is not my thing. When it went from enjoying a bike to flaunting it, that got old fast.
The real cyclists remain. The others, well...we shall buy their parts at severely discounted prices.

Yes and trackasaurus highlights the most despicable aspects of fixed gear culture. There is little I despise more then status symbols and those that strive for them. Hipsters who where punk a few years ago and still ***** about capatalism and coorperations while they exhibit the worst type consumerist values are one of them. Honestly I don't know if Juvi fits into that category or what percent of the mashsf ****ups do. However my experience is that a pretty large percent of sneaker *****s do an the intersection of sneaker *****s and fixed gear enthusiasts is almost entirely populated by these hypocritical self righteous ****s. Whether they do or not doing stupid **** like riding around on a HED(no matter how much you paid for it) is just as ****ed as the dip**** suburbanite with a suburban and a 6000sq foot house full of rooms that don't get used. The motivation is the same and thats probably where they will end up in a dozen years if they can afford it. They have already demonstrated that the alter of conspicuous consumption is worth sacrificing most of their money and therefore time at.
