i think getting all pissed off about other people's choices is ridiculous. whatever floats your boat. it doesn't matter whether I, the average joe on the street, and dutret don't like it or think it's pretentious or whatever--if it makes you smile, do it and ride the **** out of it. i refuse to get angry at people for enjoying their bikes.

all you guys are so minor league. go hang with with my fat ass uncle harry and all his roadie friends who tool around on sundays on their 6-8000+$ road bikes. i know so many fatheads who have garages full of the sickest lightest bikes i've ever seen (many lighter than uci limit) who would laugh at this discussion. so common.

I can't believe I missed all the drama in this thread... seriously, it is hard for me to think of Juvi and dutret as real people now, this thing was like a cartoon. Best thread ever!

Where to begin...
This forum is a perfect cross cut away of the state of street cycling. Kids get puffed up chests on here. I have seen a little bit of great advise and tons of bad advise on these forums. It never ceases to amaze me how much hate and judgment is passed around on forums like these.
Hiroshi fujuwara. He can do what ever he wants. he's got money, and can spend it how he likes. I think that somehow if he's into bikes, its good for cycling. money to keep it all going. I have seen a carbon bridgstone sell on yahoo auctions japan for 660$, so who knows what he does. When we were in Japan, he was on his bike for 12 hours a day, saw him at 3 in the morning most nights.
165 and adam. When we first posted the 15 pairs of mash phil hubs for sale, it was scoffed that I said the profit goes back into sf's cycling community. its easy for you on the outside to assume mash is a money maker. it is not, and i don't see it being in the near future. for the last 2.5 years it has come out of our pockets, and we have a long way to catch up. any proceeds from these hubs will be used for a free premiere in sf for the video release. in addition, so far we have sponsored races in sf, sac, canada, and ny. those prizes cost money, and selling these hubs helps in all of this. it is my impression these things help a cycling community. how do you see it different? adam, do you really think i spend mash money on myself? I have a professional career that funds mash, and any personal belongings I own, including a rim off ebay. I don't own an car, so i have a nice bike. by the way, i paid 200 for a used specialized front carbon wheel. that's less then your spoked wheel. I paid 780$ for my frame and fork, that's the same as most frames. I don't feel I have to perform this self audit, but know there are 2 sides to every story. adam, I see what you spend on bikes, and your in no position to talk *****.
The mash video has about 12 riders featured. my bike does not reflect these guys. I'm the only one with a carbon bike. josh has a stock 600$ fuji and is faster then you. andy has ridden the same 300$ frame from framebank for over 3 years. 4 guys ride pista concepts. you all have nicer bikes, don't worry, its not a car show.
As for your dislike for my setup. I'm completely fine with that. Having a dropped front is comfortable to me. This bike is what I like, and that's how I ride it. Granted this one has a ton of carbon on it. Not for everyone. Again, I love it, and ride it daily. Everyone has a different set-up, and I'm not here to dissect each riders preferences.
At the end of the day, i'm psyched we all have a love for riding bikes. all of us.

). at the same time i cant help but occasionally feel a little cheapened by how people get the impression that what you guys are doing is what fixed gear riding in SF is all about, and that everyone who rides fixed and is not a courier is trying to "be" something. I know thats not your intent, but i've gotten into several situations where that has been brought up, and i feel ive been stereotyped to this image. last time i went to freewheel there was a kid who couldnt be more than 15, chubbly, glasses, braces, on a track bike with an aerospoke. that kinda perplexed me.I know you are not making any money on mash, and that its a labor of love. I meant my comments in friendly jest. and for the record, my whole wheel set cost 250 dollars (and thats the second time ive gotten these wheels, the first time i put them together for under 200), and my frame less than that. My whole bike right now has less money in it complete than your frame
I'm pretty good at finding bargains, cant spend much if you dont make much...everyone is so hyper sensitive about what it means to be a person on a fixed gear, it can be a big headache, ya know?
so yea. sorry, didnt mean to come across as talking ****, just friendly chiding. you've never been anything less than friendly when we've talked in person, and i would hate for cylcing politics to get in the way of that. i would be lying if i said i didnt want to give your bike a spin around the block.

As I said it is far worse then the middle age roadie splurging on a tt bike he will only ride on the bike path of weekends. His bike is still intelligently built to achieve performance benefits(even if he doesn't *need* them). Further by purchasing new and riding gently he is enlarging the market for used parts to benefit of the poor racers in future years. Your bike is the exact opposite in every aspect.
If you want to be in the fashion show(and that is what it is) go ahead but I will continue to ridicule your bikes and others like them as I ridicule other examples of wastefully stupid conspicuous consumption.
