I was born and raised in NYC. Lived there for 48 years. Moved out a few months ago.
I noticed a trend in what people referred to as "the city"... meaning Manhattan. I got news for all of you...
NYC consists of 5 boroughs! The Bronx, is NYC. Brooklyn, is NYC... not just Manhattan! Staten Island and Queens are NYC.
Buying a house in NYC doesn't mean buying a house in Manhattan. The Real Estate market is widely varied.
You can't use the "statistics" to justify how much a particular person is going to spend on a property.
People will naturally look for the best deal. I am from the ghetto. The place known as "Fort Apache" in the Bronx. Hunts Point... the southest of south Bronx. I have no problem living in places where the "livin" ain't easy!
If you pay $600,000 to live in NYC, YOU ARE A FOOL! I don't care what kind of neighborhood it is! Because in NYC, if you are Hispanic or Black, and you live within your own people, you have to worry about crime. But if you live in a White community, you still have to watch out for racism and the tragedies that come with that!
So if the man bought a house in a so/so neighborhood... it's possible that he got a great deal, and he now owns a house and no one can take that from him...
Just ranting

Bikes: all of them.
its def possible, but itd be hard and take awhile... if you where a messenger before, or had been for along time and could work for a company that gave you better commision, took insurance out of that higher commission etc etc, basically meaning you do alot for the company/ies then yes, but i doubt just starting out if it would pay off, because youd probobly just spend your time and money (on fly bikes and gear) trying to get the cool messengers in the park to talk to you

OP... this is what you have to look out for. If you want to do it, you have to have the focus of a hawk. If not, then it is impossible.

Your "rejection" comment is true, however, it is only one in a thousand that don't allow rejection to deter them from attaining their "happyness".
I, by the grace of God, have not accepted rejection. The journey to happyness is long and hard but when you are lead by Love and Spirit, no man can lead you to failure.
To the OP... be the "ONE" who doesn't accept rejection.

Can always tap your ruby Sidis together say "There's nothing like a mortgage, there's nothing like a mortgage...".
To quote scripture from "Laverne and Shirley"...'..never heard the word impossible" BUT (reality check) You are going to have to hustle like hell to afford any place you want.
Mortgages and Messing are diametrically opposed, one being a rather long term commitment. the other...not generally, especially 15+ years. IF YOU MUST.... I would recommend doing so with someone who can make an entire months payment without your help, as one good tangle and you can be outta the game for months.
Best of luck to you though...ownership rocks!!!

If your credit's excellent, and you set up a money plan down to the day, you can make things work for you. You could get lucky on a foreclosure or go to a sheriff sale...you'll most likely have to put more work in, but it may be worth it.

All that said, I don't care how motivated you are, anything isn't possible. Make seven figures as a messenger THEN i'll accept the possibility that you are correct.

Problem: Need 300k+ USD for NYC condo. Must be payed for by messengering work.
Solutions 1.
Start your own business with exceptionaly agressive tacktics, hire goons to go round every other messenger biz to smash them up unless they let you have their clients or a cut in the profits.
Solution 2
Ride around with a gun and silencer attached shooting all other messengers, there buy removing all compitition allowing you charge higher rates grow your business. Become THE messenger of NYC.

you might be able to get endorsements
and sell your image to companies
maybe produce a video or two
maybe a beer commercial
or a car commercial
and one magazine
and deal drugs
this is how you can afford your condo i think
i hope you are good looking and charismatic

I don't know, I never did any commercials, never allowed my pic taken or published, took endorsements money or free anything, but if I'd chosen to spend my moolah that way I could've bought some property while I was on the road. I didn't, I spent my time & money having a good time & racing with the occasional travel mixed in. A much better investment IMO. One of my coworkers, still on the road too, has purchased several properties and flipped them, started with only his income. At the same company another fellow purchased his family home while on the road. It depends on the person. (and a slot at the cherry company)

Ok, for reals. You can make mad cash if you meet the right dealer and deliver drugs. Just make sure your boss wraps them up real good so that if you get busted you can claim that you didn't know what was in the packages.

I say take it all one step at a time. Why do you need to buy a place right now? Just rent till you have the income to do otherwise.
I still say get out of NY. Youll do much better elsewhere.
