I have a reload one, I like it when I'm just going somewhere and only need my lock(which is too big to fit in my pocket and I don't wear a belt). I find it pretty confortable and I do believe it's waterproof.
i wouldn't use it while carrying a bigger bag.
It was also a gift, I'm not sure I'd shell out for a new one.

I think the reload ones aren't wide enough and also they don't close securely enough. Thats been my experience, which rendered it a little pointless for what I bought it for.

Bagaboo make some nice ones if you want another option. Zo makes a very tight hip pack too, but good luck trying to buy one.

Bikes: Various by application

Lots of the messengers around here that wear kits use them to hold maps, pens, wallets, locks, phones, $$, smokes, anything that you might have had in a pocket, but wouldn't necessarily want to swing your bag around to get at each time you need it. Lycra has no pockets, jersey pockets are less than handy comparably & most long board riders prefer cycling shorts, jersey & naught else during the summer.

Some on the weekends wear them without a mess bag, ride with the hip pouch on the back, works very well, carries small tools & crap but no sweat patch on the back, less jiggly, waterproof & holds more securely than jersey pockets.

Seatbags don't come inside with you & generally aren't waterproof. Fanny Packs are never waterproof, always poorly made of cheap materials and always sag or compress themselves or their belts or both. So hip pouches are substantially different from those things.

I want a hip pack so that I can go out on the weekends & not have to carry my messenger bag, which gets kinda unweildy in bars and such. For me it'd be the equivilent of a purse...which I never carry any more since I'm sans car.

We gave one of mikearena's out as a prize at Broken Hearts last night. It seems to be a good size and really well made. I'd check with him.

I want a hip pack so I can wear my Bermuda shorts and Hawaiian shirt. I also think it will look cool with my green plastic visor and white sunglasses.

i like the chrome one.

i like the idea of a hip bag/fanny pack/whatever.

however, even though they're well made, they seem awfully expensive.

i use a military bag now on occasion. it's not waterproof at all though. it's pretty much only good for a u lock and a tallboy.

i have the first link you posted. it doesn't have a belt loop and there's a drain hole in the bottom. otherwise it's great.

That chrome hip bag is all wrong. I want to pull up on the strap to cinch it down, and down to loosen it up, the way they have it seems awful counterintuitive.

I'm all about

i fixed the belt loop problem. that took all of 2 minutes. the bigger problem is that the bag doesn't work for my needs. thats why i'm looking for a hip bag.

i looked at the chrome bag. it seems like it would have the same problems as their messenger bag. i like that it has a flap buckle, but the seatbelt style snap is wasted for that. i'm definitely liking seagulls style and i'd want to support a small maker. i don't think chrome qualifies for my charity.

I made a waterproof hip pack. I like it if I'm going out and want my flat-fixing things with me but don't want a full size bag. I don't care about seat bags because I'm not a racer and leave my bike locked up places. I think they are a good idea.

I got the Reload thinking it would be a good for rides to the coffee shop. I thought it would hold a book as well as the lock but it turns out that doesn't hold much at all. I haven't found much use for mine.
