problem with clasps on mks red straps

so last night my left strap came completely undone while doing a short skid at a stop sign. this is the second time this has happened. i dont believe i could have messed anything up while setting them up. has anyone else had this problem?

yes, they always loosened or came undone while I would skip.

So i drove a nail through them, now they never move.

You might have a bent buckle, or a seriously old leather strap, or both.

I got nearly new red MKS straps that are doing the same thing. This is not cool.

Don't buy MKS toe straps unless you don't ever skid / skip.

Are EAI straps any good? I think that's in my near future.

edit: **** it, what's worth doing is worth doing right, double straps are in my future.

your clasp is bent a little. happened to me too. just bend it back again. after a while they will be impossible to bend back, or they will break, so you have to get new ones.

I've never adjusted my MKS straps once yet... I will say that it was ridiculously hard to get the straps into the MKS Sylvans they came with...both sets. I had to use needlenose pliers to pull them through each hole.

they'd probably be great, but it seems like a hassle to go out and get new shoes, and than have to carry them around with me wherever i go, and sketch if they ever unlocked at the wrong time. eh, i think the real problem is i'm paying almost bottom dollar for toe straps, and than magically expecting i'll get a little bit more out than what i put it. but it seems to me christophe is better than mks.

Bikes: yes

larry e., what do you mean by "completely undone"? do you mean that the buckle came apart? do you mean that you pulled the strap through the buckle?

haha!

there are 2 ways to thread the end of the strap through the buckle- the right way and the wrong way. the right way is to go from UNDERNEATH the buckle, pinching the strap between the teeth and the roller. if the teeth aren't biting into the strap, you did it wrong.

i have my own straps threaded the right way, i think the problem either lies in the fact that a) mks has bad quality control on their straps or b) mks just makes bad buckles period. i was talking to the trusty mechanic when i picked up my bike today and he was saying EAI makes the best unlaminated straps... as for best laminated single straps, i'm guessing campy would be a very safe bet for quality as well as not feeling completely ******** for buying a small piece of leather for a large sum of cash.
