Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

some people love them since they offer a wide variety of hand positions. Others, myself included, think all of those hand positions suck and hate them. You will probably have to try them to find out which camp you are in.

I'm not a serious mtber at all but I actually really like drops for keeping weight forward and balanced while seated on very steep offroad climbs.

Naah it's a touring/cross frame with cantis and slightly knobby 28mm 700c tires. I use it to grind up the trails to my school SFU, which is on top of a little 300m tall mountain. There is a brutal ascent called Cardiac where I'm very glad to have the drops---basically they let me lean waaay forward and stay seated instead of standing up bobbing around.

For ****z and giggles though I'm planning on retrofitting this old Bridgestone MB-6 I have with ergo drops and tektro aero and interruptor levers.
