Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

It's always amusing when people play the "he's been doing _____ since before you ______" card.

Do we really need to give people credit just for being born before someone else, thus giving them additional time to figure something out?

Respect your elders. The time will come when you're the old fart, (un)worthy of respect.

So my opinion wins.

We sure as hell do. All progress made by mankind depends on it.

Not in general but I guess staying in a messenger job for X years deserves some credit. Means you're tough enough to get by from what you earn w/ messing and you've probably learned a thing or two about bikes and riding along the way.
Idiots who ride dangerously, have no skill or strength/stamina etc. get sorted out by natural selection pretty quickly I guess.
Note: I'm not a messie myself.

The same kind of credit that a veteran burger-flipper at Wendy's deserves. People that work crappy menial jobs for long periods of time are usually doing it for a reason (i.e. they are either non-documented workers, or, as I assume is the case here, just stupid)

I'm sure there are intelligent people that do this job because they get some deep gratification from it, somehow. But when Poochy is held up as an exemplar for having the same crappy job for a long period of time and getting lost and drinking a 12 pack...

Well, c'mon.

zombie carl, i wholeheartedly disagree with you, but you can't be a messenger over the internet, so it doesn't really matter, does it? we also have completely different perspectives on what is and is not a menial job.

i got a lot more personal satisfaction out of a full day's work as a courier than i do as the editor/after effects specialist for Speed Racer. at the end of the day i've sat in front of a computer for 10 hours. but that's just me. maybe deep down i'm just really blue collar. i certainly do appreciate a steady paycheck though.

you know, you don't have to post your own bike in the jackass thread if you don't want to.

edit: nevermind, he got it off of fgg, so, make fun away!

i've always found those frames to be butt ugly.

you know... seat angle, harsh aluminum ride, ugly welds, ridiculous decals.... maybe this really IS the bike of a masochist.

if that bicycle were mine:
-the steerer tube would be cut.
-the saddle would not be angled that much.
-the frame would not be fetish.

I've seen a few nice builds with the black one (no decals of course). I forget who had it, but it had some funky Cinelli one-piece handlebar-stem combo and some Mavic low-spoke rims. It looked really bad-ass.
