Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? i'm not hating as much as i am putting my hand to my head over the idea of wanting to ride freestyle on a completely carbon track bike with a $2500 pricetag.
there's a reason everyone on youtube swaps their aluminum forks out for steel ones... mr bmc just took a massive leap in the opposite direction towards newjack-assery.

what's the fixedgear word for "fred"? because that guy embodies it.

You guys can talk all the **** you want, lord knows I've talked some on here, but he's a nice guy and a really good rider. He's not just riding to the coffee shop and back on it, and those frames are tougher than you give them credit to. He just got in a major accident on it and the frame was fine.

If he had a major accident on a carbon frame, he should have it carefully checked by a shop/BMC dealer if he hasn't already.

Everyone's a nice guy. See post #1 and all that followed. I don't think that makes a difference.

If it were mine though, I wouldn't give two ****s about what anybody says.

That guy was totally cool. I wonder if he still rides his nice bike (yes, I do think it's nice).

that BMC is awesome. that pathracer thing with the low spoke front is also pretty great (though a little unsafe looking). I'd go as high performance as i could afford regardless of which bars i'm using that day.

As for the BMC, riding an expensive track bike on the street is only mildly more absurd than riding a cheap track bike on the street. I'd ride it, couldn't afford it though. That dude is from my area so I'll probably see it on the street sometime.

If you think that you can't bunnyhop because of the front wheel being weak, I must say that those kinds of wheels are extremely strong. I have this MTB wheelset, and it's one of the strongest you can buy for the price:

the cost of owning a car goes way deeper than the amount you pay to buy it and get it running (or in your case, not running).

So does the car work or not? If not, you spent $1150 per usable week on your car. Ouch. If so, you're constantly spending money just by the fact that you are using a car. Save up all expenses that you accumulate due to car ownership. It is A LOT. Don't think that the price of the car, insurance, registration and repairs account for all of your car-ownership costs. They don't!!!

Also, let's think about that fact that $300 got you two weeks worth of a working machine. If you buy a $300 bike (which isn't nearly as high on the crappiness scale as your car was/is), it's going to work for more than two weeks.

Looks can be deceiving. That's the strongest wheel in this thread. Not sure if it's the strongest wheel in the "Your Fixed Gear/SS Photos" thread, but it might be. It's not very light, in spite of the low spoke count, by the way - the hub, and particularly the rim, more than make up the weight.

For the record, I hate riser bars on just about every track bike, in every situation, especially on Pista Concepts and Fuji Track Pros.

More Velospace madness...
