He's back, and he realized $850 was $50 too much.

Just curious why you think that, I have very little experience with this. But just got a ulock with a frame mount. Haven't tried the mount yet, it seems the lock itself would rattle around far too much though.

This is true. My ulock makes a crap ton of noise and I've started to just carry it in my pack instead of dealing with the constant rattling.

I saw a commuter who had their lock attached to the frame mount nearly crash when their lock rattled out and fall into the drive-train. she was fine, but it could have been worse. perhaps it was an example of user-error however. I just keep my lock under my belt or in my bag.

i'd guesstimate that 90% of all bike "accidents" are user-error.

Aside from the rattling, which will indeed make anyone insane after enough time, just about everyone I know with a frame mount at one time or another has had it pop out and fall into the drive train or into traffic while riding. IF I even bother carrying it, I prefer it on my hip where it is out of the way but it can be gotten to if needed to scare away predators. (I leave it on the rack at work mostly now)

Wrapping rubber bands between the U and the lock cylinder will get rid of the rattling.

The rubber bands dry up and fall off after a while. It gets repetative.

Adding Rubber Bands to anything cannot be called a solution. A Fix maybe, but not a solution. Any solution which utilizes any of the following in an non-factory authorized fashion is hereby classified as A Bad Idea™. Bubble Gum, Rubber Bands, Spit and Band Aids, and That Blue Poster Putty

Duct Tape is exempt from this classification because it's the s h i t z.

I use this mount on my mountain bike. It is extremely secure. NO rattling, no falling out. And I ride pretty hard. If you want a bike mount for your lock, this is it. Otherwise just carry it, no problem there either.

Now.
More photos please.....

I can't remember ever seeing a thread that went for 362 pages. I've been thoroughly amused by the 5% that I had time to read. Thanks for that. I live in NYC and would think that we were a mecca for posers. However, this thread has shown me that there is a whole other universe of poserdom which I have not been privileged to observe in person. I wonder if a lot of this stuff comes from LA or SoCal. It's like 1980's BMX all over again but SS. I love it!

That depends on how far away the car door is.
You stop when you get to the door.
