Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Stick it out for the summer collection, I hear they're doing them in that auto paint that changes color if you look at it from different angles. Rumors of hypercolor in '08 have not yet been confirmed or denied.

What they need is a paint/anodizing color that changes color with its speed. At rest they are red, but as you go faster they travel through the ROYGBIV until they hit ultra-violet at 30 mph. Black lights at the track, yes.

Bikes: 2 fixies, 1 road, 29er in the works.

I've got phils on my nice bike, on my daily bike I have a Miche and a Surly. The surly is tough, but nothing tremendous. The Phil's look nice and roll decently. Honestly though, the Miche hub rolls smoother, better and cost 1/2 the price of the Phil. I don't know about a rear miche, but for dollar and cents, Miche is a better deal. This is side by side equal use comparison. Even funnier, the Miche is on a 36 spoke wheel, the Phil is a 32 hole, and the Miche still rolls better.

Phils: nice, but, really, not worth the $$$.

I'm sure that violates everyone's sense of what's right and decent in the world, but it's an honest opinion.

Phils arent better than anything or worse than anything. A hub is only as good as the bearings in it and any hub maker can choose the same bearings that Phil uses (or better than). Therefore, any hub has the potential to roll as smoothly as a Phil and doesnt even have to be such an ugly design.
The lock ring threads, lockring and also the axle...that may be solid nice stuff the phil has over other hubs.

I like girly-colored things on my bicycles because it's so dumb that it's awesome because it's ironic.

They're worth whatever people pay for them, I guess? I know that I agree with you, I don't think I could justify spending that much on a hub.

I love when generally agreeable, non-controversial opinions get
