Why in the world are bikes called "whips"?

So, people call their bikes "whips" because it developed from a slang word for 'steering wheel' and now means 'expensive car'?

In reference to the urban dictionary definition for whips, I dont see how these rappers have a clue as to what stage coach drivers called the reigns. They all of a sudden saw the mercedes symbol and thought, "whip"?
