So, people call their bikes "whips" because it developed from a slang word for 'steering wheel' and now means 'expensive car'?

Wow. You guys are lame.

It's better than calling your bicycle a "Hog" isn't it?

The basic reason is that "cool" is a Western African concept. I don't make these rules, but I must submit to them.

Hahaha - I'll carry on the Morrissey theme. "I was feeling quite happy, and then you called me lame, and heaven knows I'm miserable now......"

Take a close look at this sentence, and try to detect where it's not strictly true.

It's like when guitar players call their instrument an axe or fiddle or whatever. It means they're exceptionally nerdy white guys trying to sound a little bit cooler than they ought to.

... and then they go play some hott lixx!! \m/ \m/

When they play together, they're not just jamming, they're "woodshedding", and better yet, if they have some sort of a playing contest, it's "headsplitting". It makes me ashamed to be a musician, so it does.

I think you can get arrested and jailed for up to 5 years for calling playing instruments "woodshedding" in the USA.

Ghost ride the truck has got to be my favorite.

In reference to the urban dictionary definition for whips, I dont see how these rappers have a clue as to what stage coach drivers called the reigns. They all of a sudden saw the mercedes symbol and thought, "whip"?
