Here's another critical mass

^^ oof!

queerpunk 04-06-07 04:30 PM

i agree with you, eddie. i think it's worthwhile to condemn that behavior without writing off all of critical mass - mostly because the people i've known who have been enthusiasts of CM have been decent, wonderful, kind, respectful, and smart people who wouldn't stand for that **** that happened in SF.

In my experience these things don't happen without being provoked I think the woman is enhancing her truth to make herself seem more innocence

I think she had something to do with provoking the cyclists

Rusty Valiant 04-06-07 07:50 PM

Everyone check out the expression on the face of the guy running over the Russian. He is clearly saying 'OH NOES'

Rusty Valiant 04-06-07 07:52 PM

As for CM, I think there is a political message to it. The problem is that no one is really sure what it might be.

neasrhinolds 04-06-07 08:06 PM

Not to beat a dead horse. But I saw the whole "Critial Smash" minivan scenario go down. The woman knew she hit the cyclist - she hit her brakes before she hit the gas. The cops on the scene wouldn't let the cyclist press "hit and run" charges unless he took an ambulance ride. He said "F-that, that's bullsh*t" and rode off. You can read my account here: www.urbandelicious.com .

FYI - Matier and Ross are working on another 1 sided Critical Mass story about a limo driver.
There's a political slant to this whole thing: The decision on healthy Saturdays in GGP takes place April 9 which Matier opposes and is trying to
push anti-bike sentiment. Otherwise none of these stories would had even made the news.

more like oh noes this dudes belly might break my carbon!

epicshakedown 04-06-07 08:24 PM

This f*ckin story just keeps getting more bizarre. Everybody lies! This urbandelicious dude somehow didn't even notice that the entire rear window was broken out? Are you serious? Urbandelicious, were you really there?

coelcanth 04-06-07 08:46 PM

why would urbandelicious dude lie about being there and what he saw ?
did you even read the story ? he does not deny the window was broken.. he points out that he did not see it happen or who broke it -->

"Then the driver falsely accuses the super cyclist that caught up with her that he had broken her rear window. Those of us in front didn't even know that her window had been smashed and therefore had no idea when or who had done it. We do know that she was trying to finger the wrong person."

santa monica is always first friday if the month. just got back from tonights. decent turnout- 200 or so, couple minor incursions with grumpy car drivers, but more people hollering form their car "i want to do this!"- it was a fun night.

Thanks for filling us in. Glad someone posted that was actually there. Sounds like typical bs. Cyclist got hit, but didn't get killed so all is well. He got lucky and didn't get hurt, but hey that is okay to hit one of us as long as we are okay this time. We have no right to be on the road. We should be on the sidewalk and those people that yell that out their car windows are right.

Whatever.

The report I read said her husband was in the van. I suspect that he's not in the photo because that would make the story less inflammatory.

doofo 04-07-07 11:34 AM

can link to the report
?

cause i heard it was her adulterous lover and thats why he isnt in the pic

I don't remember which article it was, but I definitely read one that said her husband was in the van too.

"But Ferrando said she, her husband, two daughters and their three friends were held at the mercy of a swarm of bike riders inside the minivan."

http://cbs5.com/politics/local_story_094202942.html

If they showed the husband in the photo, instead of being all "zomg i hate cyclists" people would be like "lol what a p*ssy". I'm convinced that the MSM (first time I have used this abbreviation) is significantly directed towards people who like to feel righteously angry. I'm not a tinfoil hatter or a hippie (rank title notwithstanding) this is just how i see it.

eddiebrannan 04-07-07 12:07 PM

ah whatever. i'm gonna go ride my bike RIGHT NOW

Yeah, no doubt.

Everyone sounds at fault here. Driver being impatient or angry and hitting cyclist, other cyclists being mob rule and swarming the minivan... no heroes here.

If the cyclists wanted justice, they'd have gotten the license plate, taken pictures of the van, and then handled the police. Even if the police blew them off, they'd have one more piece of evidence for their cause. These things aren't won with one big watershed event, and the whole 'CM are buttheads' totally works against them, but if there's a pattern of angry drivers hitting cyclists and no reprisals, that works a lot more in their favor.

None of that will happen, though. This is CM. Too many 'anarchists for anarchy's sake'.

doofo 04-07-07 03:17 PM

guys she only tapped a cyclists wheel!

that statement goes to show how little the police and the authors of the original article know about riding bikes on the street

how many of you have had a car "tap your wheel" and not been thrown
?

tapping cyclists is what sends them under trucks buses and other cars
:(

schnee 04-07-07 03:23 PM

'I only tapped the wheel' is the equivalent of 'I only threw the bottle *near* him as a joke'.
