Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I'm glad to know the only response you can resort to is a pointless insult.

By the way, Nike is to stop making cycling shoes/clothes. No Lance, so sales. The factory in Kotor Varos, Bosnia & Herzegovina has been told it will not be needing any swooshes soon.

Hey Sekt, don't let Deathhare wind you up. Have you raced on the Launceston velodrome? I rode there twice, my favourite track. By the way, that picture of the guy with two heads in your avatar, your neighbour?

I don't actually have a working track bike yet, so nope I haven't raced it. Probably not very likely that I will either to be honest (I'm not a racer...yet). I never even realised the Silverdome was a velodrome. I've never been inside and I was under the impression it was just a big arena/stadium type thing. I'm really keen to get up there and have a look when the carnivals start up again though.

Y'know that's the first time anyone's ever pointed out (and I've never noticed) that my avatar looks slightly two-headed. Haha.

Silverdome a brilliant track. Really fast. Only problem is they used local pine, so when you crash it splinters - one guy got an 8 inch splinter in his back...

A nice pic ( https://www.cyclingnews.com/photos/20...menstrackwheel )

Sekt, thanks for putting the energy into those posts. You did a great job of summarizing a really daunting set of interrelated issues.

And yeah, Naomi Klein is great.

Okay, so it's the big picture thing.
For the Nike **** I love - shame on me.
For the Nike **** I abhor - shame on thee.

I just hope to ride my bike a lot throughout the big picture.
Oh yeah, in my big picture...we all can afford a bike.

to be totally honest and realistic, 99% of things you do/buy as an American is a result of someone somewhere's hardship

I reckon I'd be gagging to hit a velodrome if I wasn't scared ****less of a body full of wood slivers.

I'd bet against my own track team, get kicked out of the sport, die unfulfilled, just to ride on a cornfield velodrome.
