Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? This thread inspired me, Don't have my rack or fenders attached to it, I'm going to be running a coaster brake in the rear (i got the frame with the rear canti bosses hacked off along with the fender/rack eyelets)
just rattle canned it but i think it turned out pretty well, looking at getting a new saddle and maybe some panaracer pasela white tires for it.

this was before I rode it so excuse the awkward handlebar and saddle positions

Thanks Deshi! I just finished it today and took it out for about two hours (despite it being freezing here!) and it's an absolute blast to ride.

Yeah, not much riding on this end for a little. We got hit with a ton of snow the other day. 68" in 72 hours at the ski resort. Maybe like 36-40" down here. The roads are nothing but 6" of slush right not. Its nasty.

Looks good just like it is but if you put some brake levers onto the bars the way God intended (or use some TT levers in the bar ends) and throw on a pair of fenders and you'd have a certifiable townie.

I get what you're saying. A buddy of mine was giving me crap for using a cross lever but I tend to ride with my hands up on top (near the curve) quite a bit and the ol' Tektro is most functional for me.

What frame is that? And that's a classy ride, and a nice sticker you've got down on the seat tube there, I have a similar one on my seat tube, weird huh?

The Premium Brew looks awesome man. i was really considering getting one of these for my next build. the only thing i don't like about that frameset it the cable guides on the tt. if they weren't on it i would have already bought it.

Thanks. I was a little put off by the cable stops at first but now that the bike is done, they really don't bug me. I may even end up going freewheel with this someday and putting them to use.

It's more relaxed...standover height is only a half inch greater than my Kilo, yet the frame is nearly two inches longer. The two are like night and day, especially with the 20t cog on my PB. I love the hell out of my Kilo but it's really nice to have the versatility of both.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the lugs, finish and overall quality of the frame too.

I run 48/18 on my Kilo and wanted this bike to be even easier. I'm glad I went with the 20 here because it rules to cruise around on.

I put a basket on, thought I'd take a picture before I start relacing the wheel with a coaster brake.

I joined the forums pretty much just for this thread; some really great bikes in here. I've just finished my first FG bike - once it gets some North Road bars and starts looking a bit prettier, I'll post a pic.

Well, this one isn't as nice as the Jeunet, it actually made the trek out to Ottawa with me. The French Miss is back in a locker in Vic.

With gears:

Chainline shot. Spacer made form a copper pipe from the generic big-box hardware store.

I pulled the geary bits off after the drive out, the rear derailleur was siezed (first one I've seen do this!) and the shifters were crapping out by the time I covered the 5000k of salty snowy roads. I like the look and feel of no basket on the front, but I think I need it - I think I'll mod it a bit to make it a little better lookin'.
