I am trying to get into messengering here in Seattle and having a hard time finding a job, or a listing for that matter. Is there anyone here that can help me? Thanks.

You tried actually talking to any messengers? Find out where they meet and be nice. Some will be idiots and some will be approachable.

Found its the best way to know whats up, find out whose hiring etc.

not a job posting per se but a good list of addresses and phone numbers to try...

you could also just sit outside monorail espresso and ask someone.

i would advise talking to someone in person.

Find one standing by, so they'll be bored instead of in a hurry.

i think it's pretty hard to get a mess job in seattle unless you know someone. or so i have heard.

I know someone at KNR...not sure if I can get you in, but yeah, SeaTown is a niche city for messy's.

I have made a bunch of phone calls, and everyone is either not accepting new employees or the standard "we'll get back to you".

is there any way that i could be a messenger and still be able to spend my whole day on the computer talking ****?

maybe what i want is an internet messenger job.. do those exist? maybe not yet?

There is a coffe stand downtown, I think its called the monorail cafe. lots of messengers hang out there on their downtime, its a bike friendly sort of caffe offering discounts to messengers. its located on pike i believe, or pine, i cant remember the street name but its the one that runs UP towards Capital Hill. You wont be able to miss it, its next to a Bananna Republic I believer. I say hop down there and make some friends.

grab a small macbook and ride with wireless.
Park, take out the laptop and login to the wireless network, talk **** (if free one exists in Seattle's core).
Be a data cowboy and transfer sensitive corporate data, get bonded.

To the op.. learn your core and the addressing of the biggy towers. Spot the stand-by spot and approach bearing gifts wrapped in thin white paper..be fully prepared to vibed.

Constantly riding up and down hills would get pretty old I'd think.

seattle would be a brutal messenger city.


unless you specify "I will only deliver one message from a hill to a low place... once. and that is only if i happen to be on said hill by chance. if i am in the low place, i will not deliver to anywhere above me. i will deliver to places on the same elevation as me."

i'm picturing starting by eating lunch at the broadway grill and then delivering a pepper grinder to mcormack and shmicks (sp?) and then hitting up all the happy hours around there and then you toss your bike into the nearest flex car and drive back up to capitol hill and restart the next day.



this could work brilliantly if people tip like i'm fantasizing they do in my head...

The hills are nowhere as bad as people make them out to be.

The ride from Downtown to Capitol Hill is a straight shot and only takes a few minutes.

Pretty much all the offices here are in Downtown, South Lake Union or the Denny Triangle and all are at similar elevation
