Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

hub-center steering
-technology has been around in the motorcycle industry since the '70's (Bimota)
doesn't offer a tight turning radius though.

I love looking at concept artwork, why scoff at someone else's imagination.....

Never saw that Bianchi concept before. It's unfortunate though that there is no credit given to the designer!

you know what I think is "cool"?

steel diamond frames, forks, wire spoked wheels, normal drivetrains, and adjustable saddles and stems/bars. The best thing about these "cool" items is that they're available in "stores", where people can purchase them with "money". Not a whole lot of money either. Just some money.

The designer of all of those (with the possible exception of the last one, i've never seen it before) is Scott Robertson. He's a very prolific industrial designer/concept artist. Those particular designs were done for a movie (I want to say Minority Report). The ones that were actually built for the movie were professionally built from carbon fiber. He said they were extremely heavy and inefficient. You can see more of his work at www.drawthrough.com .

Maybe people could offer their own ideas as to how bicycles will look in the near future. Maybe it is not obvious, but concepts are meant to push the boundaries and to experiment. I'd say these are very successful and are actually pretty interesting.
