Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? not for the fixie, but an Ultegra/Openpro wheelset w/ ultegra cassette and very good condition michelin axial pros for $45. Definitely worth more than the rest of the bike they went on.

Also found a nice Canari jersey at the goodwill for $4

1. Mid-70s Paris Sport track bike with great lug work. $75 from a friend (he paid a few hundred on ebay in 2000 or 2001). All original parts. Shimano 600 (or 900) headset, Suntour BB, Sugino Mighty Comp cranks with 49t ring, some narrow and steep track drops that have "Phillippe" carved into them, tubular wheels on Suntour Superbe hubs. I don't ride or need the wheels. Rear still holds air fine, front has a rather slow leak but the tires probably need to be replaced anyway.

2. 1985 Pinarello track bike complete. $100 from the original owner who had it as his bike when he was a kid and now works at the barber shop under my old apartment. All original Ofmega headset, cranks, hubs (Campy like cut outs), bb, and chain. Cinelli track drops, Pinarello printed onto the stem, original terribly uncomfortable Pinarello bar tape still intact.

Conti GP 3000 (top of the line form last year or so) tyres in a shop, ~$19 each. Not too bad. Preposterously good deals are nonexistent here

Find the wrench all the racers go to, that's where the deals are!

Conti Grand Prix for $15

Mavic Open Pros for $45

Rossin track frame for $50

Sapim Race Spokes for 35 cents each

Campy track cogs for $10

And I got a spoke replaced, two for spares, and a spoke wrench today for free!

I *love* my LBS.

I know all shops worth mentioning... nothing exciting anywhere. Importers are pitiful and it's a tiny market... Deals are there for wrenches, racers and their buddies.

Latvia is even a smaller market. I guess I'm in good with the local wrench. When I asked the other day to use a tool from his table he said; "you never have to ask, you're like family." I guess that explains the good deals and wonderful service.

my whole bike for 80 bucks was a pretty good deal.

even with the bent rim and no brakes, i still enjoyed the hell out of it for a few months.
evolution:
a brake and some upholstry, road bars and road seat, new wheelset/tires/tape

so after all, it's turned from an $80 bike to a $400 money pit... but whatever.

All prices in cdn funds

2 suede supercorsas for $10

traded a selle royale sprint saddle I picked up for $5 for a red flite

Brooks team pro in good shape for $40

gitane track bike with an extra wheelset and extra cogs and chainrings for $300

Mariposa randonneur frame, fork, custom rack, campy bb, generator, and JOS lights for $100

Sabatini frame fork, campy x super champion wheels (built by S. Pogliaghi, supposedly), cinelli steel stem and bars, 151 bcd cranks, campy pedals for $400

minty Rossin frameset, SR crankset, SR headset for $400, seller threw in a pair of new GP3000s

1970s Colnago super, mostly NR, $400

Mostly deals from an old racer dude, and some friends. I'd like to think that all parties concerned ended up satisfied.

How is it that I can remember what I paid for all this *****e, and I can't remember to hang up my laundry?
