Raleigh Rush Hour.

Well i went into the bike shop today to order my chrome Pista, and they weren't able to get it until the end of may. If i got the gang green it would arrive only 10 days sooner. Since i apparently have no patience i just went ahead and ordered the Raleigh Rush Hour. The LBS will have the bike at the end of the week, and i figure this bike is roughly as good as any other off the shelf bike in this price range. I searched for anything on the Raleigh and didn't come up with much that was recent. How is everyone liking the bike not that its been out a while?

Thanks. J

A friend of mine works in a bike shop, they just got that bike in and he brought it up to me. He had nothing but good things to say about it after a short ride around the shop. I don't remeber all that he said, but if I run into him again at school today, I'll ask him for more details.

Just replace the dumb plastic pedals when you get it. Those things suck.

griffin_ 04-30-07 12:12 PM

i've had mine for a year and a half
i like it pretty well, except the dudes at the lbs didn't tighten the cog/lockring and i strpped a hub, which they replaced for free.
the paint on mine has scratched and dinged pretty easily but they may have changed that since.
i heard the decals are under the clearcoat now which is pretty lame
and yeah replace the pedals, the ones it comes with are crap

Glad to see a few people are riding these. The guys at the LBS here are really cool and easy to deal with. I was set on getting something from there shop just because of the service they provide. I'm sure they'll give me some decent deals on parts when it's time to upgrade.

the pedals are junk, and I got sick of the saddle pretty quick. the stock hoods on the '06 model are a pain to adjust, the bolt to loosen them is underneath the lever. and the stock fixed gearing is crazy high for street riding, at 48x15.

thebristolkid 04-30-07 12:24 PM

I've had one (an '07) since January. Stock fixed gearing on the '07 is 48/18 (16T free). Yes the decals are under the clearcoat now. I like mine a lot, but since it's my first FG, I have nothing else to compare it to. I switched the pedals/clips, and the saddle and bars are next.

griffin_ 04-30-07 12:28 PM

also the collar on the seat tube is junk and strips easily
i rode the 48/15 for way to long

what handle bars are those?

kludge 04-30-07 12:48 PM

one of my fav. off the peg complete bikes but almost everyone i see in person or on the net always looks......"special". put some love into it.

Yoshi 04-30-07 12:58 PM

I have a Rush Hour Pro which is a completely different bike but I absolutely love it. If the quality on the Rush Hour is even half that of the Pro it is worth it.

Pfutz 04-30-07 01:03 PM

I rode a raleigh rush hour 06 for some time and i would say that it is a fine bike. I think that my only complaints would have been:

Stock gearing for fixed was a bit much, (48x15)

Paint Quality was poor, chipping off easily.

Tubing is not the greatest quality and tended to dent too easily.

Pedals are incredibly poor quality.

All in all I really liked the bike, I have since comitted to purchasing a better frameset and components, but for a introduction to fixed gears it was a great bike.

That said I think there are better options on the market now, specifically the surly steamroller.

petethelefty 04-30-07 01:47 PM

I have an '06 Rush Hour and my complaints and praises are the same. The stock pedals are total garbage and paint chips WAY too easily. The stickers on mine were over the clear coat so I was able remove them all. I'm happy with everything else. I would rate it better overall than a Pista which I have had experience riding.

Oh by the way, the Rush Hours are pretty light for what they are too. My front tire got destroyed while riding yesterday rendering my bike unridable and unwalkable. I had to carry my bike 3 and a half miles to get it home.

soulback 04-30-07 03:06 PM

I love mine. I replaced the seat, the pedals and clips and straps, put on a 42t chainring, took off the levers and rear brake, got a goldfinger lever for the front brake and took off all the decals.

And yes make sure you tighten the cog and lockring.

thebristolkid 04-30-07 04:24 PM

The tubing is better on the '07. Reynolds 525. But the paint is still crap (my winter project is gonna be a new powdercoat). Here's mine:

Strong Bad 04-30-07 05:39 PM

I bought an '06 about 4 or 5 weeks ago, and I've got about 400 miles on it. It's a nice bike and can't be beat for the price, but it does have some weaknesses (as any bike anywhere near it's price range would). I've fixed most of the stuff that bothered me. I put on a Syntace stem (original was too short), Ritchey Biomax bars, Speedplay pedals, a Selle San Marco Concor saddle, and a 16t E.A.I. on the fixed side. I also removed the rear brake. The wheels were not built very well, and I had to true then up after the first 100 or so.
Here it is now:

Nikephoros 04-30-07 06:00 PM

Been riding my 06 since August. I changed the cog to 17t and added the nitto horns. I also replaced the crap plastic pedals with MKS royals which was a fantastic upgrade. The only thing I want to change now is the saddle which gets really uncomfortable after 15 or so miles. I recommend getting an 06 over an 07 if you have the option, since decals on the outside is a big deal to me, and as a "first fixed gear" I don't think the slightly better tubing is a huge deal.

Have been riding mine for a few months. They are all right... the pedals suck. But other than that I have no complaints. I took all the decals off mine, flop and choped the bars, and got some Deep V spartacus. I like it.

I was going to buy this bike from a friend of mine but the first night riding it I had the same problem as one of the posters above. I stripped the hub while doing a skid stop. He took the bike back and is taking it to the place he bought it from to get it fixed under warranty. I ended up not getting it and buying a Pista instead because the bike was too big for me. It seemed like an awesome bike for the time I had it though.

eaglevii 04-30-07 09:59 PM

I've had mine for about 15 months. Like everyone else said, the bike rocks, the paint job sucks. It's a really fun bike to ride.

JaphyRider 04-30-07 10:34 PM

Holy ****! I had to leave my Rush Hour back in Boston when I moved. After reading this thread and seeing these pictures, I'm calling my dad tomorrow and having him ship it out here.

I see you really like BMW E30's,as do I. Unfourtunatly i blew my head gasket last week.

The bikes nice too.

kyle! 05-01-07 02:53 PM

here's mine. i've had it since the beginning of march. i agree with most of the stuff said already. it came with 48x18 but i switched it to 48x17. the paint it poo but i'm gonna rattlecan this thing white any day now. i'm also thinking of new cranks. the stock ones aren't terrible but i wanna make this bike dope. also i'm looking into getting a nice wheelset(not that these are bad at all). i didn't even bother with the stock saddle or pedals. all in all i love the bike and it rides wonderfully. i've gone on some long rides and it holds up just fine. i'm gonna take on the track over the summer too.
