I have the new crank arms tightened down as much as I can, yet there's still a little bit of exposed square spindle. However, it doesn't look like the chainline will be right even if it's totally interfaced. Is it expensive to get a new spindle? This one must be too wide.

I have a 170 crank arm with a 52t chainring attached to it if you want to pay the cost of shipping for it =P

I'm curious. Do you *EVER* have any Good luck?

Glad things worked out for you,... if I had some square taper cranks I would have given you them.... but my mass dumpage of my extra bike parts has pretty much come to an end. Sorry.

Quote: The old ugly Fuji crank was $22 and the new Origin8 was $50. I just looked it up and the Origin8 goes for $40-$65, so I think I got a decent deal.

You still paid for someone else's mistake.

I didn't even tell you guys about the spill I had when I met up with geoGraphicFTD last week. I got road rash on top of the road rash that was on top of the road rash from the first accident (2 weeks ago, the left turn into the curb one). My friend's chainrings got smashed up pretty bad from that one...

For a new spindle and / or the next time you need stuff for cheap, try the Ohio City Bike Coop. They're on Columbus Rd in the Flats and have tons of stuff, most of it's used but some is new. They're only open on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays though.

Whatever. Screw chainline. I think it'll work well enough. Only problem is 87 gear inches.

Do you think it's okay that I used tenacious oil instead of grease on the pedal threads? I could go get them reinstalled with grease sometime this week.

I would use grease. I would expect tenacious to weep its way out.

Switch that chaining to the inside of the spider for better chainline. Better yet pick up a 130BCD 42 tooth chainring at the aforementioned bike coop for five bucks and put that on the inside of the spider. Kill 2 birds with one chainring.

It is on the inside.

OK then. How far out is it? Some bottom brackets are longer on the drive side than the non-drive. if that's the case you might be able to get a couple mm by flipping the bb spindle.

WOW! Just looking at their website, it says the track cranks take a 118mm spindle? can that be right? that's way long, it's tough to even find a 118 spindle anymore.

Quote: Either way, get some grease while you're at it.

I would look at it as a chance to upgrade. Surely you can Craigslist some decent square taper road cranks for not too much dough.
Old Shimano 600 road cranks FTW.

I already had the spindle flipped when I got it converted. How can I tell how long my spindle is?

I think I'm good for now, so I probably won't change the spindle, but I'm curious about the different sizes available.

here's the problem dude, no fung-shui at all, all that negitive energy flowing in to the room and coming from the dead plants, stinky shoes, 3 differents typs of flooring and disco balls, and then seeding its self onto the postive energy bike and crank, and they like don't get along man, so like unless you want more crap to break I suggest some serious rearranging and spring cleaning

nah, i hail from the east, little italy, coltman to be exact, i think i posted once stating that every courier lives on the west, excludingin me.. but i'm not working right now so they all live on the west, and screw having a perfect chainline, on some bikes thats like eldorado, it just will never happen, accept a little bit of slack, run a break, and grease it up good and it'll be quiet
