To clarify the whole Aheadset idea, Dia Compe developed the Aheadset way back when, Cane Creek eventually bought it up, uses the name on their lower end headsets.
The difference between the Aheadset system, which is the same as their upper, involves the use of their conical split spacer, which does a lot of work in getting the proper tension on the headset.
Also, Shimano has no variation on the threadless headset, unless you're going to call their threaded only headset a variation on threadless design.
