I plan on riding this bike on RAAM 2007 and at the Furnace Creek 508 2007.

Thank you to Andy at Ben's Cycle and Fitness without your consult I wouldn't know the first thing of building a fixie.

Thank you to Rocky, at Nytro, the best mechanic in the business for helping me realize my fixed gear dreams.

Bikes: many.

I don't mean to disregard your new build, but you're going to do RAAM on a bike that you finished building a few days before the start of the event?

Nice! Your saddle looks a bit nose-up though, not a good position, particularly for a leather saddle IMO.

Valid point here, you should try to get some miles on the bike to work out any possible kinks. However, a fixed gear is bound to have less issues than a geared bike, especially one that was obviously carefully constructed.

thanks guys for the concern. But I have done many centuries and 2 double centuries about 1,500 miles on this bike. I haven't posted it before because it wasn't "pimped out" yet. The anodized fenders and anodized stem were the last two pieces I added this week otherwise the bike is exactly the same bike I have been riding since Jan.

As mentioned above I have ridden 1,500 miles with the saddle in the nose up position you see. I have ridden 2 double centuries and didn't have any discomfort. I've been riding a Brooks saddles for many years and IMHO they need to be nose up. But this is truly a personal thing.

This is what it looked like in Jan https://www.epictrain.com/photo_gallery.html scroll down

I like this bike quite a bit - especially the fenders. I've considered getting a Milwaukee frame and putting a disc fork on it - might still do it.

on anything shallower than 8% grade I smoke them on climbs, on flats I can hurt them (95 cad equals 25mph) but I get dropped on sustained downhills very hard to keep up over 35mph.

how did you know I was riding a 49 x 15? I just added that to the spec when you pointed it out.

right on. Your original post made it sound as though you just built this thing up and are going to be spending tons of time in the saddle on a bike you haven't spent any time with

have a blast... I'm envious.

It's more the other way around. Trying to keep up with George can lead to a strong urge to vomit

eons of riding brakeless track bikes has built up the life force of pure zen awareness in me to the point of clairevoyance.

haha just kidding man, i saw https://www.epictrain.com/photo_gallery.html and took a look at it. i ride 49x16 in the city and it's about as high as i'd like to go, the steepest hill in town has me spinning out at about 35mph but it's very fun, fast and scary.

What's the bottom bracket you got matched to the crank? Also, what's the chainline you ended up with on this fixer?

when i get done with RAAM I will begin my mountain training on Palomar on my multispeed for Everest Challenge. But on recovery days you will see me riding the coast from Torrey Pines to the Oceanside Marina. Because I will be doing Furnace Creek 508 fixed.

What do you ride?

Oh man, riding palomar is a rough one, but that whole area is gorgeous. An amazing ride is from the coast out to Borrego Springs, especially when you hit the Banner Grade, that is one serious hill!
