Hello everyone. As you can see most folks got their frameset. Less than 1% were misdirected. Found out about a black frameset error tonight. But other than that most things went smooth.
Next time I would have done this over the winter so it will not mess with the regular bike season.
As far as complete bikes go we started shipping them today.
UPS pickups are back down to one truck a day.
Just a quick idea of what life is like at IRO Cycle.
There are 3 of us. Myself,my wife Carrie and Penguin the bike builder. (Don't ask).
We all take orders, pack orders, build wheels and so on.
Carrie who will be delivering our newest addition on Tuesday the 24th.
(We know this because when you live an hour from the hospital that delivers babies you try to schedule it.) Has been a real champ through this. She has been there everyday.
Most times when a call comes in you can hear our little people. Our six, three and one year old.
The two dogs and a few cats who patrol the barn keeping the chipmunks out of the frame boxes.
All this happens everyday.
All the best.
Tony

Thanks for emailing me so quickly Tony. I have never doubted IRO (There is only praise here in Reno! Everyone riding an IRO loves it and appreciates your service) and was actually surprised that you responded to my email about the black frameset error even though it was after the usual shop hours.
Can't wait to receive my frame. Even though I was looking at the wrong frameset today I wanted to ride it so badly that I almost overlooked the fact that it was threadless instead of threaded. The matte black is beautiful and the geometry looks very nice.
Thanks again for all the patience and work.

Well he did make (by most estimates) nearly $40,000 worth of profit out of the arrangement, so that's probably pretty encouraging.

I just got my black 1" frame this week and I received a threaded fork but I measured the headtube and it is definitely 1 1/8". I am a bit confused, shouldn't the headtube measure 1"?

dont you think if the threaded fork measures 1" that the headtube should measure slightly bigger to fit the fork?

Oh I see. I thought you measure the inner diameter of the headtube to determine if the frame is 1" threaded or 1 1/8" threadless. Thanks for clearing that up

There was talk about a Rob Roy group buy, but that never seemed to materialize.
"Next time I would have done this over the winter so it will not mess with the regular bike season." So if there's another one, I would guess it's not starting for a while.

got my complete last night. very nice. i think it might be too small for me, though. i'm going to try a longer stem, and if not, i'm going to try to trade it. for a bigger one.

Well, these were ordered in what, february or march? I'm just estimating rather than checking facts, but it took 3-4 months from order to delivery of frames and complete bikes.
If he wanted to do it again, he'd be smart to get the orders in within a month or two. I doubt the stress of the order is in the ordering itself, rather in the shipping process he has been in for the last few weeks. If my presumptions are correct, an order placed soon would be arriving to him and ready for delivery as buisness dies out for the winter months.
At least, that's how my un-bike industry opinion figures it.

Don't think a group buy will happen til next summer at the earliest. I get the feeling another road fix frame wouldn't be as good a seller, maybe he'll do a MTB frame (29'er?)...

Tony said in another thread that he was busy testing the new IRO 29'ers, but I doubt that we're going to see those available for a group-buy since they're so new. There's always more people who want road fixes, and there are quite a few who would love a cyclocross bike for winter, so I'd expect another Mark V/Angus style frame, or else maybe we can finally organize that Rob Roy group buy.
In any event, I think the ball's in our court. We (well, mostly Grasschopper, as I recall) organized this one, so I don't think Tony's going to come to us with the group buy.

Wow! I'm surprised you would even consider doing another group buy.
