Tried my hand at hat making today. For material, I cut up an old track jacket I had. The brim plastic is from a gutted Sublime hat. I didn't have any way to print up either of the patterns posted so I just kinda came up with my own. It only took about three hours to come up with something I'm half-satisfied with. Anyway, hope you like it:

I think if I make one again, next time I'll make the inside curve a little wider on the plastic brim material so it doesn't stick out so much. |
first attempt using the pace pattern. i had real trouble with the brim.

I like the fabric too, it reminds me of my couch. At least you make hats better than you dance.

I wish I could wear a cycling hat... it just doesnt work with my longass puffy dreadlocks tho... it looks REALLY bad.. I just rock a trucker hat with a bandana on under it so it fits nice and tight... I will be making some cycling hats for my hubby soon tho..stay tuned...

I'm pretty excited about that one. It has a shorter brim, too. I think I like it better. |

Those are some great caps, pirate.
I don't have a machine, but figured I'd try it with the ol' needle and thread. Took about 3 hours total using some fabric I had laying around and an old black shirt. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1360/...cc513b88_o.jpg Panels were a bit sloppy, and the seams are messy, but it looks okay from the outside. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1092/...38e34189_o.jpg |
Where did you get that material? it rules.
|
lol

I  my piratelove hat but my fat melon hurts after wearing it for a bit because he uses super strength elastic on it.

My girl is going to try making me a four-panel/ campy style bike hat with contrasting colours like velolove's, and we have this "Cat Diesel Power" patch to put in front. Haha biketrucker hat!

this guy has some good Ideas. In regards to fabrics, "All of my fabrics are recycled from quality thrift store garments made from wool, cotton, and sometimes linen. I like natural fibers because they feel good, look good, smell good, are non-flamable, breathable and biodegradable.
http://www.shaundeller.com/ I also love Walzcaps.com. I gunna ask my friend if she'll sew up one of these patterns for me on her machine. I found some awsome fabrics at the goodwill. I love the old wool that the garments of retro days were made out of. |
