You cant teach an old dog new tricks.

AGGRO, another refreshing voice of reason and sanity. At least if people would just come out and say they dislike police officers for no apparent reason they would be intellectually honest.

Did the cop have a crystal ball to determine said offenders financial status?

Please explain how rolling through a gridlocked intersection is against the law. He was a dick because rather than ticket the idiots who are blocking an intersection, or directing traffic better, he went after the cyclist, sirens & lights flashing for a half mile. He then, in his haste to pull over a cyclist and write a $20 ticket that would be thrown out of court anyway, neglected to actually pay attention to what he was doing and ran over a log so fast that it completely destroyed his undercarriage. He was obviously going faster than prudent and therefore breaking the law himself, and is thus, a dick.

Edit: Oh, and I don't have anything against cops as a whole, just the ones who prove themselves to be ******bags. I've had far more positive than negative experiences with law enforcement. I don't see how saying that ONE SINGLE INDIVIDUAL who HAPPENS to be a cop is a dick, means I'm saying all cops are dicks. Oh wait, I see how now.. you're idiots.

hey maybe the cop wasnt going to be a dick until he was guided into a ****ing log

srsly people it is not surprising that you have so many bad encounters with police when you hold such negative expectations of them

some cops are no better than the thieves and murderers from whom they purport to protect us

in fact their hypocrisy makes them worse

but that doesnt justify treating all cops like ****

i say watch closely for rising fascism

try your best to hold authorities to the rule of law

but dont pretend juvenile antagonism is anything but

and what kind of expectations do you think cops hold of you? seriously, it's THEIR JOB to try and figure out what you are lying about and why. they are gonna approach every situation as a worst case scenerio, cause that's what they have to deal with a lot. you can be a lot more sure of a cop's behavior than they can be of yours.

doofo 07-05-07 07:08 PM

i know that

ive have cops whove drawn guns on me turn completely nice after they discover im not a knife wielding meth head

whats your point
?

that maybe you might expect you can get a gun drawn on you? maybe its not surprising that people have bad encounters because of negative expecations, but you can't also be surprised that people have those kind of expecatations in the first place.

doofo 07-05-07 07:42 PM

im not surprised

and i didnt expect that

Being a law enforcement officer myself (albeit federal and i have no regulartory authority over traffic violations - thank god), I believe i'm being entirely "intellectually honest" when I say that I dont hate cops yet found the story funny. Speaking of intellectual honesty, Blue Jays, why are we saying OP "caused" an accident? Not stopping something and causing are two different things, as I hope you're aware. Let's say for the sake of arguement, that OP, knowing the log was there, guided the cop into that log at such a speed so as to tear up his under carriage.

We could disect the story in an attempt to come to a conclusion about causation, but I assure you, it will take some tremendous leaps of faith (and logic) to get to a point where the officer did not do it to himself.

Some of you are sooooo uppity tight. G-zuz. Just think of the super psyched mechanic who got to fix the car. I applaud you for contributing to the working class!

ChromePista 07-05-07 08:33 PM

I wonder what traffic offenses the policeman was thinking of charging me with as he roared up behind me? Besides my coasting through the red light, maybe he was going to charge me with evading arrest since I rode off and left him tied up in traffic. Maybe his intention was to arrest me and haul me off to jail. I guess I lucked out that the log was there. His rolling over the log embarassed him so much that he let me off with a warning. It would not have been good to go to prison in lycra shorts.

And don't even ****ing argue that they put their lives on the line to protect us. They choose their profession knowing the risks, and are compensated for it. A policemans life is worth no more than any other citizen. Yes, they knowingly put themselves in risky situations for their job. Tons of people every day put themselves in risky situations every day, but lack a gun strapped to their side, a squadcar of backup at the drop of a call, and a license to act as they see fit and face the "consequences" at a later date to protect them.

chome pista is the only one not engaged in this discussion, his replies seem to be continuous streams of thought stemming from his original post.
