Profile (BMX) Cranks on Road frame

Hello everyone,

I am a bit of a lurker on here, only posted once or twice, but hopefully the combined knowledge of all members can help me out. I have searched (not only this forum but the entire intahweb) & found nada.

I am converting an oldish (late 70's/early 80's) Europa (Australian Builder) road bike to a fixie. I would like to put a set of polished Profile BMX cranks on it. Inspiration:

Does anybody know how to do this? As far as I can see my options are

a) Get Euro/MTB BB Shell put on road bike frame (a bit OTT & expensive)
b) Put Profile axle into road BB (is this even possible?)
c) Find an aftermarket road BB with 22mm 48t spindle in correct width

L'il Help?

Thanks in advance

Rod

I believe a Euro BMX BB fits on a road bike BB shell. As long as it fits a 68mm. Length would probably be the only issue.

I absolutely love that setup. It looks awesome, huh!?

The cranks should come with a bottom bracket. Just make sure you buy something that's right for the frame.

yeah, if it's going to be fixed, use 165mm crank arms.

I have 170mm profiles with an MTB BB currently. My current fixie uses 175mm so I think I shall be OK.

I shall look into Euro BMX BB. Thank you very much for your assistance.

I had one on a Specialized P1 SS. It's pretty cool but annoyingly wide and heavy.

Bikes: A big one

If you go to flatlandfuel.com you will find many 165mm cranks. All flatland bmx bike use 165mm cranks.
Actually the 'Premium' ( company name ) cranks are very similar to profile cranks and they're only 89 bucks.

I don't remember the model number, but the chain in the picture is a Connex Super Heavy Duty. I've got mine on my track bike right now and it does inspire confidence riding brakeless. Heavy, wide, and somewhat short (I can't run any bigger than 47t in front with 18t in back), but probably the slowest-wearing chain I've ever had. It'll last forever.

Gonz spent a lot on machining alone to make this work - fixed.

He had the ti euro BB on this pictured.

I use the same chain on my track track bike.

Good luck! Nice photo.

Ride safe

Bikes: a bunch.

What required machining?
AFAIK, the euro BB should just go right in, and with the sprocket slammed to the inside the chainline should work.

For thinking they are ugly, that is. Crupi are the only better looking 3 piece BMX cranks.
