im still confused why everyone is making a big deal about what other people are doing with THEIR bikes. do what you want with YOUR bike and stop *****ing.

YOU TALKING TO ME MR. CAPS!!!???

I wasn't throwing my opinion out on anything if you read back from page 1. All I've been doing is questioning other peoples opinion, and making them realize that they eat their own words.

disconnec 07-06-07 05:03 PM

I run risers a lot. I have some drops, too. And some bullhorns. I like them all. Right now I have risers on my bike. I like my bike. I like you.

Haha! My bad!
What about the other guy who's telling me that my frame might be too small, or that I might have a wrong sized stem? These guys are a bunch of jokes

Granted any capable rider can hop with any bar, I can hop my girlfriends cruiser up curbs, but risers bars put your arms in an ideal pop position. That's why we use that **** in bmx. More pop in the top.

Ride what you want. Enjoy bikes.

chunts 07-06-07 06:03 PM

honestly I dont really care what kind of bars people use, and in fact I give props to people who pony up that they never ride the drops and have just dispenced with having them at all. I'll leave it to dutret to explain why risers on a track bike on the street is inefficient or whatever.

marqueemoon 07-06-07 06:19 PM

I tried risers once. They were uncomfortable and made my bike look like a hybrid.

track drops on the street

Secondly, who the F*ck are you to tell anyone that one handlebar is better than the other? It's all personal preference. Saying that people put risers on bike cause everyone else does is just like saying that YOU ride a track bike on the street because everyone else does. My friend has been riding risers for the past 5 years, at a time when drops were the only thing you seen on the very few track bikes on the street, which is how I got put on the risers.

So why don't you explain something to me...Why are drops, flat bars, bullhorns, and everything else you mention better than riser bars?

Everyone please pay attention.

The correct height of bars will vary from person to person. The vast majority of bike hipsters I see have their bars way way too low. If you found having your hands by the stem the only position you used then you too had your bars to low. hands by stem is a ****ty place to hold any bar and the only reason you would spend so much of your time there was if the bars in general were too low. If you had your stem all the way up and this was the case then either you had the wrong stem or your frame didn't fit right.

Need I list the reasons why risers are ****? I kinda figured they were self explanatory.
First off they don't really offer any better visibility they just allow for better visibility with a stem which is inappropriate for the rider(like yours).
compared to flats:
the bend does nothing except allow you to use a different stem and decreases the weight/stiffness ratio.
this is pretty minor though which is why I don't HATE risers in place of flat bars.
Cut off compared to drops or horns:
-leverage is equivalent to drops or horns 5cm shorter.
-only one hand position.
-if not flipped and cut off the sweep is in the wrong direction.
-no aero position
-provides absolutely nothing that the other bars don't.

hiredgoons 07-06-07 07:20 PM

Only hipsters would use Reiser for a server; those who are concerned with function rather than form should go with ZFS.

A purist would keep their track bike purely on the track...and w/o a break

and a purist mountain biker would keep his mountain bike ON THE MOUNTAIN!

time to hang up my bike since I don't ride in the city

Why has no one else pointed out how awesome this bike is? I would personally run smaller tires (unless you're actually riding offroad with that? But they look like slicks.) but besides that it's totally rad.

back on the topic of this thread: Hate cars used for 1 mile trips, don't hate bikes.

pyze-guy 07-06-07 11:46 PM

I have risers on my fix, and the horror...bar ends.

Igneous Faction 07-06-07 11:53 PM

Honestly though, I run risers on my bicycle because it is a commuter. So for everyone going, "LOL HYBRID", yeah. Upright position, comfort, etc... I have never been on a ride where I thought to myself, "Now I wish I could get real low and aero", those situations just never happen. Risers v. Flats? I've got my steerer cut and don't want to buy a new stem with positive rise. Bicycle co-op steel risers were the perfect solution for getting a little higher up front.

That Ellsworth is gorgeous.

But yeah - **** risers on track bikes.

Risers on conversions, however, that's fine - conversions are abominations as it is.
