It's not an issue with quills, but with the 10 degree stem I have, to get even near that height requires a sh#tload of spacers. Does this frame have a short headtube(56cm), and what would a max for spacers be?

Well this bike (I have the 56 BTW) has a taller head tube than my #2 geared bike but that frame is a 54cm with a 55cm TT...this head tube is like .5"-.75" longer which is about on par. I have seen suggestions that you shouldn't run more than 40mm of spacers but that was in reference to an AL steerer...you could get away with a little more than that but I wouldn't go a lot more...better to have the stem flipped up thus giving you rise...that is how mine will be and there are many like that in the photos here.

TUT2222 07-27-07 11:00 AM

Thanks! I do have the stem flipped up, actually. I hope to get it put together this weekend, and will play with the spacers to figure out what works best, but I have the feeling I'm going to look pretty foolish(I accept the fact I'm old and out of shape) with all the spacers. My lbs left the steerer long to play around with it, before they chop it to the right height.

I don't see a seat. Is it in that garage somewhere?

spacers don't look foolish to a lot of people. i think it looks much more foolish to have drop bars that are so low you never really use them. but it's all just opinions, comfortable is the new fast.

If you haven't already, you'll have to contact UPS and talk to their tracing department. They're the ones who investigate lost packages.

I'm not how insurance plays into this, but they're supposed to cover the cost of a lost package and reimburse the shipper for the value of the merchandise. Then the shipper (IRO in this case) is responsible for sending out another package.

The process usually works out pretty smoothly when it comes to off-the-shelf products, but a built bicycle is a different story (espically for the GB frame which is generally irreplacable).

Just make sure to call UPS and speak to their tracing department and Tony. I really hope they find it though, it'll make it alot easier for all parties involved...

You're only partially correct... UPS won't do much of anything for the customer except start a tracer. All accounting will only be handled through IRO, for that reason, starting and resolving the process is on IRO. Here's the real catcher, if tony did not ship the package with "declared value" (which is an additional cost) tony will only get back $100 + s/h. Again, that is on Tony, not you...sucks for Tony if he has to refund you for more than he's getting back. Anyway, just hope that UPS finds it by the 31st.

well here is the almost final for now things will always change build

I freaking love this 'riser stem' it's ugly.. and i'll replace it with something a little more... classy.. but it gives me the upright position like a riser bar.. but lets me run bullhorns.. yea it's not gonna win any awards.. but function comes first.. also my 28' tires rock.. such tight clearance.. this is the perfect 'city fix' frame if you ask me

estratton 07-29-07 09:26 AM

FINALLY finished my build Thurs. Raced it on Fri and it was AWESOME (save pin that keeps the saddle from angling forward/backward coming loose and my *** now being sore as heck).

Despite how the picture looks, the chainline is PERFECT.

badevilcow 07-29-07 12:27 PM

estratton, that looks freaking great! how do thoes hubs run for you?

estratton 07-29-07 09:21 PM

The hubs run great. It's a stiff ride, and the saddle will have to go at some point. Right now just adjusting to the bike. Might have to throw some urban pursuit bars or something on it.

Who knows.... maybe a cheap set of risers to experiment.
