I'm actually using the cog carrier system.
Once you get it on securely, it pretty much eliminates any possibility of stripped hub threads. changing cogs is so easy. it's relatively cheap too! |
I've also found I'm a fan of the cog carrier system, and am looking at getting some more cogs incase I want to change my gearing.
As stated, cost is fairly cheap. |

From what I read, it is standard threading for the cogs, and as stated above, its the lockring that gets proprietary. i purchased a wheelset with Miche hubs and it came with a Dura Ace cog. i first wondered if dura ace also did italian threading, then feared about the threads getting f'd up when i put on the carrier system. But its sweet because I can run a 15t 3/32 on the san jose, then put on my 17t 1/8 for the IRO (after i get the damned fork cut-it just sits there taunting me). And google found me some replacement cogs for $13. pretty happy thusfar.

less talk more bikes!!!

bike is at the lbs having steerer tube cut and bolts/lockring tightened. Almost done .......!
|
would this fork fit my bike.. it says something about "perfect for a 48cm nice and tight"

You have a 48cm group-buy IRO?
No. You don't. So no, it will not. |

No. You don't. So no, it will not. do you have to be so goddamn rude? |
its a 59cm iro, so would i have a insta-funnybike with that fork?
I dunno. im just trying to find a fork for ~$150 or less that doesnt have ~40mm of rake. |
my thinking is the steerer tube is cut and threaded for a 48cm bike with a really short headtube. So it won't even fit your IRO, unfortunately.
|
chase is right, the size frame a fork will fit on has nothing to do with the length of the fork but the length of the steertube, and something that's perfect for a 48cm bike is going to have a short one, and you need a long one for a 59 iro, i would GUESS you probably need ~200mm if it's threaded (more if it's not). but that's just as shot in the dark based on 57cm frames i've ridden
|
could i just tig some more tube to the top?
|
I've welded steerer tubes before, they snap. feel free, but I'd advise against it. you can find plenty of forks for less than $150 all over the place.

*and I can't find a Lugged Steel Track fork anywhere online... all I see are road forks or carbon/aluminum forks.. |

I dunno. im just trying to find a fork for ~$150 or less that doesnt have ~40mm of rake. Worst case, it fits exactly like the IRO fork. Best case, it steepens up you geometry a little bit and you get a faster handling, closer to track geo bike. |
