do you guys think that the spicer fork will bring the front wheel in by a noticeable amount? its only a 38 rake...

id really like tighter clearance up front.

Well I am VERY close now. LOL This bike so should have been together by now. Finished tensioning the rear wheel last night and put on the rubber and the cog. I didn't want to stay up late last night though as I am off work early today so I will have time to finish it. All I have left now is sizing the chain and putting it on...then taping the bars and I am ready to roll. Test ride and photos this afternoon.

I still have no parts, but I am buying a house, so I have no money.

What's the current wheelset built with?

Hit a car that pulled out last night, was going around 30 when she pulled out, not sure at what speed we hit, flew through the air and all, a couple of scratches and maybe headset roughness are all I've really noticed so far but haven't been able to do a complete check. I figure this is a great reason to get a different fork, though a fork made out of something other than this one's heavy duty steel probably wouldn't have fared as well.

I don't have any parts yet either, nor have I even laid eyes on my frame. I had it shipped to my friend's shop quite late, so it only arrived a little over a week ago, and I haven't had a chance to check it out yet. So yeah, nobody worry about how late they are with their build. :)

Not to beat this topic more in this thread, but I did do this on my frame. I cut the steerer, lathed a tight fitting "slug" with a much thicker wall and then TIG welded it in. It has worked like a charm for many miles and I can't fathom it every breaking. It probably added 1/2 lb to the fork, but I would rather it be "fat" and wake up in an ambulence.

That all being said, just buy a fork that fits.

Took her out for a spin late last night---handles beautifully. turning is nice and smooth and the drive train nearly silent. I don't know how I feel about the mustache bars yet. the ends are too short to sit comfortably upright and the bends make me put 3/4 of my weight on the bars and lean too far forward

Spicer looks nice.. but its 42mm rake..

Somebody please inform me of a Steel track fork, 1" threaded, with 35-38mm rake, preferably lugged.

the spicers are 38mm rake.

"Spicer 1" threadless chrome plated chromoly 700C track fork. Reinforcement tangs from inside crown to inside fork legs. 26.4 crown race size, 300 mm threadless steer tube. Current stock 42 rake and not super tight tire clearance under crown."

Email Tony at IRO, he might have a few extras. I doubt you'd get the same price we did, but you'll never know unless you ask. The worst he could say is, sorry they're all gone. Good Luck.:)

quick question... what degree of (-) rise would I need on a threadless stem, that would make it horizontal?

Either build a time machine or check eBay, although now they're going for $300+. If Tony has any extra frames, I'd guess that those are for any exchanges he might have to make, although eventually I guess he'll relinquish them.

People keep talking about another group buy, but it's going to take someone who is extremely motivated to get it organized, and I don't see anyone stepping up.

a -17 degree stem would give you a horizontal stem (or it would be real close).

somewhere in the mess of IRO threads, Tony did mention (or relay the message) that any possible group buy would be in the winter, when business is slower so he can avoid some of the logistical problems we had with this one.

Assuming that the ordering is the easy part, and it's the packing and delivery that are difficult, then if you are serious about another group buy, you should start organizing it now. If it got started immediately and took orders until September, then the bikes would conceivably arrive January/Feburary, when Tony will have the time to handle it. It sounds like if you miss that window, you're looking at least a year for another group buy.

am i the only one who is seeing that spicer offers two different track forks, one in a 38 and one in a 42?

90° - the HT angle will get you horizontal so from -15° to -18° depeding on the frame size.

Ok I have a test ride and my morning commute in on the BFFGSS IRO...man I like this bike. Seems to be lighter than my Langster...maybe has to do with the wheels? But the back end is for sure lighter...front? Probably heavier due to that tank of a fork. I don't know if it is because of the tires (Mich P2R 700x25) or the frame but MAN is this bike SMOOTH. You feel NO vibration...only bumps and even they feel muted. I love the feel, with it along with the dead quite fixed drivetrain it is like I am just floating through the air....well and pedaling. :D I am a bit bummed that my Carbonello stickers didn't work out...they pretty much fell right off...leave it to Litespeed to screw up some stickers.

And I must have super human senses or something because I can tell very small differences in bike fit...the Q factor of the Miche setup is for sure narrower than the Sugino setup from the Langster...and I can feel the 2.5mm difference in the crank length (went from 170mm to 167.5mm). Also even though my cockpit is the same size (length from saddle tip to bars) I can tell I am a little more forward than I was on the Langster and my Bottecchia...I am going to slide the saddle back a little and put a 100mm stem on in place of the 110mm that is currently there....but man what a nice bike.

Photos coming at some point but I wont win any prizes...I run 2 brakes and that rear brake line is fugly...I WANT CABLE STOPS. :D
