Trying to order caliper and lever from the same site.

any standard reach caliper will work... so yes.

All that work... for nothing.

freeskihp 09-11-07 08:51 PM

that is exactly how I feel

EDIT: I am *****ing and moaning, I will keep it an use it for long rides 'till the 'nago enters my life

So I have most of the parts and ready to start putting everything together - should I repaint my black frame? Is it worth the effort? Hearing all the horror stories makes me worried. I don't want to spend the money for a professional job, so I'd be doing it myself.

What are the horror stories?

jayrooney 09-12-07 02:25 PM

the horror stories are...
my paint got a chip and i cried, then i got another chip and i **** my pants!

just go ride your $150 frame and quit worrying about the paint.
it's nothing special, no cinelli, no colnago, never will come close.
it's a cheap frame and it should be ridden, not babied.
it will never be a showpiece.

it's a great frame and does ride very well by the way.

ba deeb ba deeb ba deed ba deeb ......................that's all folks!

somnambulant 09-12-07 02:44 PM

my thoughts exactly.. plus, I figure no matter how badly the paint chips, it's still going to be better than whatever you can do at home with a rattle can! :)

Anyone have a IRO with the black Mavic CXP22's or Open Pro or Open Pro CDs? Trying to figure out rim coloring.

I'm really bummed about this paint, my bike isn't even done yet and it has 10 nicks/chips in the paint. I've been covering it with a sleeping bag FFS, I don't even want to think about what it's gonna look like in a year. Had I known how ****ty it was going to be I'd have kept my money, what a joke.

see everybody, even something as soft as a sleeping bag can chip the paint!

Here's mine with black Open Pros. It's a terrible picture taken inside at night from a ****ty angle, but it's the best I have at the moment. You can barely tell that the OPs are black because the box section is so short and the braking surface is machined, so unless you look closely, they just kind of look like silver rims.

I'll hopefully be taking some decent pictures soon and posting the full specs after I swap the bottom bracket out and move the chainring to the inside to fix the RD2 chainline issue.

I'm not going to post this to the thread because it's so huge, but here's the high res picture of my IRO with Open Pro CD rims.

I think they're basically the best conventional rim in the world - they always spin true, stop on a dime, and look great. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

pazzmore 09-13-07 07:48 AM

black spokes on black rims look pretty damn good. i think if you get them in that color you should do the spokes too.

I have been told by a number of wheelbuilders that black spokes compromise the integrity of a wheel and have a higher failure rate

Not sure I comprehend the logic there.

Supposedly, the coloring process makes the spokes more brittle, or so I am told.

I'm not saying I agree with it. Just relaying what I have been told
