Chain drop super skid

Chain drop super skid
I was just riding home (in rush hour traffic) and going downhill at 20mph at least.
As I was going through a particularly bumpy intersection (downing & speer), my semi-slack chain popped off. I've had this happen before, but usually the chain falls off to the outside and I just use my brake to stop. This time, the chain lodged between the cog and spokes and my feet locked in the middle of spinning at top speed. At first, I didn't even realize what was wrong, but I was sliding and fishtailing like crazy. Fortunately, I managed to stay upright and come to such a controlled stop that it probably looked deliberate.
My tire left a nice long mark on the road and a distinct burning-rubber stench in the air. There's even melted rubber surrounding the flat spot on my new tire.
I had to get out a screwdriver to pry the chain loose and I was actually amazed at how little damage was done to the spokes and chain. They're pretty cheap, anyway. I'm just glad I didn't eat asphalt.
This has probably been discussed before, but please share your own stories of chain drop skidding.

Sunday I smashed my knee into the stem when my chain broke on my geared bike. Luckily a driver was paying attention and slowed down. I was crossing a street from a side street and just crossing over the first lane when it broke. Sunday night I was riding down a parking garage and dropped a chain, I have a brake and nobody was hurt.

I've broken many a chain, usually it's not a bad chain but a bad interface between two links (bad break-repin). I have snapped a couple but rarely and usually on my old SS MTB uphill. Best chain I've personally found so far are Sram...3/32" that is.

Same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago. I ended up taking a link out of the chain to be able to tighten it more. I am pretty gunshy about downhills ever since. I try to keep a little back pressure at all times to maintain tension.

I don't know how I managed to hit the stem with my knee but I did. I was standing up and pulling with my right foot to get going and when the chain let loose my foot came out of the pedal and just slammed into the stem. The first time I did this was about ten years ago on a Varsity, the kind of stem with the ragged bolt sticking out the top of the stem, lots of blood and a nice scar.

Yesterday due to chain slack my bike burst into flames and exploded. Fortunately I managed to come to a controlled stop on my feet so that it looked deliberate.

backpedaling makes the topside of the chain slack. so, backpedal with a chain that is too slack or a bad chainline and hit a bump and then all of the sudden your chain is sitting on your bottom bracket shell. it all happens so quick.

End result should be the same, just one has a higher chance of ****ing up whatever your tightening before you get there.

Happened to me once, I was about to cross an intersection to make a left from the right side of the road probably going about 15mph, when the chain popped off somewhere and I skidded to a stop in the middle of a not-so-busy road. One or two of the links got seriously messed up, so I changed them out with the few spare links I keep in my saddle bag...

I had my chain drop (fell to the left of the chainring to the bb) and un-rotofixed the cog, blowing the lockring threads right off. Going about 20 mph, locked up the wheel, hosed 9 spokes and scared the hell out of me. Just took the wheel off, put the cog on the other side, hammered down on the pedals a couple times and peened the lockring on with a adjustable and 10mm wrench. Still have yet to fix the spokes, they are still intact, but have heavy damage... DT spokes are damn strong!

Just thought I'd vent here about a chain drop a few days ago. I was well aware of my slack chain tension but I thought I'd wait till I got home to move the wheel back. So the hole time, I'm making sure to keep tension on the chain by pedaling or resisting smoothly because DC roads suck. So I'm bombing this big, bumpy hill, pedaling to keep the tension, and I see the light at the bottom turn red...****. I'm nowhere near close enough to blow the light without dying, so I start to backpedal. The second I start, I hear CLINK CLUNK. Chain dropped... No super skid though. I just Ted Shredded to stop(which works really well actually). So I go to just crank the chain back and find that my chainring has bent teeth. So I got to walk home that night. But at least it stopped raining earlier...

Dude, when this happened to me, I potato chipped my wheel, tore up my chainring, broke both my legs, ran over my dog, and worst of all, it nearly look uncool.
