I have Santini T-Gels. Don't buy chap shorts/bibs. It is not worth it. Really you should go over to the Road Cycling sub forum to find out about bibs/shorts. You don't want to waste money on crappy bibs/shorts. In fact, I have already seen a few mentioned that I would never consider wearing because the chamois sucks.

I don't rock bibs. But I often rock a pair of baggy shorts over the spandex that I'm rocking. When I do that, I rock a belt and tighten it enough so that when I pull up the spandex, it doesn't fall down. If you rock a fanny pack, it would have the same effect.

In the winter, when I'm rocking more than one layer, I'll often rock a pair of supsenders between the base layer that I'm rocking and my jersey. However, I've also found that since I've been rocking a Brooks saddle, what I rock when I ride my bike is less of an issue.

Bikes: something fixed, something broken

Performance Ultra Bibs are wonderful, and reasonably priced. I like them as much or more than any of the more expensive name brand pairs I've had. Multiple friends with the same results.

Nashbar bibs are not very good quality. The chamois is huge and the stitching is poorly done. Stick with some of the other brands listed in previous posts.

If you don't mind advertising for Hammer Nutrition you can get Voler's top-of-the-line bibs for $45: https://www.hammernutrition.com/za/HN...YCLING,Cycling

Voler is a big company, and they do a lot of the team jerseys you see. SDBC jerseys are voler!

I can't speak from experience but I've heard a lot of good things about voler bibs. If I'm not mistaken the Hammer Nutrition bibs use the Ion chamios which normally costs $110.

As for Hammer, they make a lot of sports drinks/gels/etc. which are regarded as some of the best. They sponsor RAAM and many other endurance events. A lot of people swear by Hammer HEED drink, and they also make what my friend calls "magic pills" - electrolyte pills.

Overall I've never heard anything negative about either company or their products.

I've never used bibs, but I'm looking at the Hammer branded stuff as a cheap way to get some new, quality shorts -- should I try making the switch to bibs? Why do you guys prefer them to shorts?

Ever have your shorts hang on the front of the seat after standing? That and a more comfortable fit keeps me in bibs.

Plus it makes my wife giggle to see me do my mime act in them.

If dropping the kids off is such a big deal then why doesn't someone put a couple carbon fiber buttons on the straps?

well I usually wear them under a baggier pair of shorts because I'm headed to work or something, but sometimes on my longer(30-40 mile) commutes, the waistband area gets a bit uncomfortable. I think I'll try the bibs.

Voler. Best value in cycling clothes, in my opinion.

This is my favorite post ever. I love it when people talk about dropping dueces. I have a poop tattoo.

Wow. I enjoy a nice BM as much as the next guy, maybe more than the next guy, but LoRok takes it to an entirely new level.

My compliments, sir.

To be honest, I have no affinity for feces. I love saying the word "poop" and talking about poop is fun. The tattoo is a joke. Haha, jokes on me!

I've been riding these as my only bibs this season. I only wear them and the hammer jersey I bought for my long weekend ride. Rode 70 fixed miles in 4 hours in these bibs and jersey and they are the real deal. Spec Toupe saddle, if you're wondering.

As for Hammer Nutrition, amazing stuff. I have no reason to rep for them other than my experience with their products and customer relations. I bought a 12 pack of their Gel, a tub of HEED electrolyte drink, and a tub of Perpetuem.

If you're wondering what I ate/drank over that 4 hours - not a single solid food and wasn't hungry at all. Perpertuem combines all your protein/carbs/electrolytes into one bottle, and then you hydrate with plain water in the other. So I sipped the 800(!) liquid calories in my one bottle, and then refilled with plain water during my gas station pee breaks. Never finished a ride that long so strong - never cramped up, no gas attacks, no terrible taste, and didn't feel wiped. I brought two gel packs with me and didn't even think about them. Ok, I think that's 'nuff said on nutrition products in a bib thread.
